
René Vazquez, tenor, is a native of Spring, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Lamar University, studying with Jammieca D. Mott, and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Alabama under the instruction of David Tayloe.
His operatic credits include Oronte in Alcina, Camille Raquin in the Alabama premiere of Tobias Picker’s Thérèse Raquin, Marco in The Gondoliers, and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with The University of Alabama Opera Theatre. He has also appeared as Le Remendado in Carmen with Music on Site, Inc., covered Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Druid City Opera, and performed the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Ars Nova School of the Arts. Additional credits include Eddie Pensier in John Davies’ The Bremen Town Musicians with Mobile Opera and roles in Cedar Rapids Opera’s outreach production of Dave Ragland’s Charlie and the Wolf, as Mozart, and their mainstage production of Tosca.
Recently, Vazquez appeared as Alfredo Germont in La traviata and Judge Danforth in The Crucible as an Emerging Artist with Opera in the Ozarks. In addition to his operatic work, he has been featured as a soloist in major concert and oratorio repertoire, including Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, among others.
