How to Apply to UIW

Select your category and follow the steps to become a Cardinal.

This is the application for students coming directly from high school or students with no college credits completed. Students completing college credit courses while in high school, such as dual credit or AP coursework, would use this application.

Step 1: Submit your application.

Create a GoUIW account and submit your application. You can also apply using Common AppApply Texas or Scoir.

Step 2: Submit your high school transcripts.

Transcripts can be emailed in a PDF format to admissiondocs@uiwtx.edu or physical copies can be mailed to:

Step 3: Submit your SAT and/or ACT scores (optional).

This year, submission of standardized test scores is optional. If you are submitting test scores, an official report must be received from the testing center. You can request your score be sent to UIW by listing our code when you register for the exam. (Our code for the SAT is 6303, and ACT is 4106.)

Step 4: Submit additional application documents (if applicable).

  • G.E.D. scores (if applicable). If you have achieved the General Equivalency Diploma, an official score report must be submitted.
  • AP/Achievement or CLEP Test Score (if taken)
  • Dual credit transcripts (if taken)

Step 5: Submit your FAFSA.

Apply for financial aid beginning in December 2023 for the Fall 2024 semester to qualify for state, federal and university grants (UIW FAFSA code: 003578).

This is the application for students transferring from another college, students pursuing a second degree, transient students and non-degree seeking students.

Step 1: Create a GoUIW account to submit an application and maintain your file with UIW.

Step 2: Submit official transcripts from each institution attended. Students with fewer than 24 college credit hours are also required to submit an official high school transcript (with SAT or ACT scores) or official G.E.D. scores. If you are unable to get a PDF copy of your transcripts at the moment, our admissions counselors are here to help. Please contact the Office of Admissions at (210) 829-6005.

Step 3: Submit Letters of Recommendation (optional). Letters of recommendation are suggested, but not required, for a decision.

This application is for students seeking a master's or doctoral degree including non-degree seeking students. International students should follow the International Admission application process.

Step 1: Identify the program of study and degree level.

Step 2: Verify the application deadline for the program. Most programs accept applications year-round. However, you should consult with Graduate Admissions to determine if your program has a deadline.

Step 3: Begin the application. Applications can be completed online.

  • First-time users: Create an account to start a new application. If you have completed a UIW degree and are seeking a second degree, you must complete a new application as a first-time user.
  • Returning users: Log-in to complete your application.

Step 4: Provide other documentation to complete the application. Determine what other documents, including transcripts from all colleges and universities attended and standardized test scores, are required to complete your application.

Step 5: Wait to receive notice regarding your application status!

  • When the Graduate Admissions Office receives a completed application, it is submitted to the appropriate program director for evaluation and review. Each department makes a final recommendation for admission.
  • The Vice President of Enrollment Services will notify the applicant by mail or email regarding application status.
  • Once accepted, students will be assigned a program advisor who provides academic advising and information to complete registration.

This application is for new and returning students seeking a degree in the School of Professional Studies in an accelerated format online or in-person at the undergraduate, graduate or doctoral level.

Step 1: Submit an application (no application fee). Application deadline is the Sunday one week prior to the term start date.

Step 2: Request your official transcripts from all previous universities and colleges attended after you have submitted an application. Send to:

Step 3: Fill out the FAFSA.

Step 4: Consult with an academic advisor.

Step 5: Register for classes.

Step 6: Attend orientation online.
