The University of the Incarnate Word is committed to providing educational opportunities to students from all backgrounds, regardless of financial means. More than 90 percent of UIW students receive financial assistance, and there are many opportunities available to students of all majors. We encourage our students to seek additional scholarships to finance their education through community organizations and foundation or accessing the opportunities listed below.

  • Scholarship Opportunities for UIW Students - Apply Now!

    • 2020-2021 STARS Scholarship
      Open to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents who have completed 12+ undergraduate credit hours with a minimum GPA 2.7. Must be a resident (5+ consecutive years) of and have a permanent South or West Texas address in one of these 30 counties. Students must have also earned a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to the fall of the new academic year.
      Deadline: March 31, 2020
    • 2020-2021 UIW Endowed Scholarship
      Open to entering freshmen meeting the Academic Scholarship criteria established by the Office of Admissions and returning/transfer students who have earned a minimum 3.6 cumulative GPA.
      Deadline: April 3, 2020
    • 2020-2021 UIW Sibling Discount Application
      Deadline: August 24, 2020 to be considered for Fall 2020/Spring 2021 or January 11, 2021 to be considered for Spring 2021 only.
    • 2019-2020 Fifth-Year Accounting Scholarship
      Open to Texas residents within 30 hours of completing the 150 semester-hour education requirement to take the CPA Exam. Must have completed at least 15 hours of upper-level account courses and file an Application of Intent with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to take the CPA Exam.
    • Cardinal Chemistry Scholars (C2S) Program
      Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Must be a chemistry or biochemistry major, currently enrolled at UIW or applied for full-time admission with a minimum GPA 2.8.
    • San Antonio Mathematics Scholars (SAMS)
      Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Must be a mathematics or statistics major, currently enrolled at UIW or applied for full-time admission with a minimum GPA 2.8.
    • Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship 
      Open to Pell-eligible students whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer. Students must have also been less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of his or her parent’s or guardian’s death.
  • Merit Scholarships

    Merit Scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions for full-time main campus undergraduate students. Find more information on UIW Merit Scholarships.
  • International Admissions Scholarships

    The University of the Incarnate Word offers a number of scholarships to international undergraduate students seeking their first degree. Contact the Office of International Admissions for more information. 

    • #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship
      Beginning Fall 2020, UIW will offer two annual, renewable scholarships that cover 50% of the tuition to selected international first-time in college students dedicated to advancing intercultural learning and understanding at UIW. 
      Scholarship Criteria: Be a first-tIme in college international student who is admitted to UIW for Fall 2020. Graduated from a secondary school outside of the United States. Demonstrated interest and initiative in promoting intercultural learning and exchange (as evidenced in the essay). Completion of a YAWH scholarship application and a 500 - 1,000 word essay, or a two-to-five minute video answering the following prompt, "Tell us about your leadership skills in your school or community, and how you plan to continue applying your leadership skills at the school you are applying to?" 
      Deadline: May 1, 2020 via email to intladmis@uiwtx.edu 
      Renewal criteria: All continuing #YAWH Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time during the Fall and Spring semesters while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0.  The scholarship is renewable for up to fours years based on continuous enrollment at UIW.

      Students from Latin America or the Caribbean can find a listing of scholarships, grants, fellowships and loans, collected by the Rowe Fund program of the Organization of American States (OAS).  For over seventy years, the Rowe Fund has granted interest-free student loans for university studies in the U.S. to supplement other sources of financing.
  • Program Specific Scholarships

    Fashion Management Scholarship: The Jurren Sullivan Center for Fashion Management awards several scholarships in the spring. The scholarships are announced at The Cutting Edge Fiesta ® Fashion Show.   • ROTC, Military and Veteran Benefits

    ROTC Scholarships: Students interested in ROTC scholarships should visit the ROTC website for more information on the program, scholarships and requirements.

    Military Discounts: Qualified military students and dependents may be eligible for tuition discounts. For more information, contact the UIW Business Office.

    Veteran Education Benefits: The UIW Office of Veteran Affairs can assist students using educational benefits under Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Educational Assistance Programs in the pursuit of their educational goals.

  • Athletic Scholarships

    Scholarship Search Engines: Students are encouraged to apply for external scholarships in addition to any UIW awards they receive. There are free search engines that students can use to find more opportunities.

  • Discontinued Scholarship Programs

    Beginning Summer 2019, the following UIW programs will be discontinued:
    • Incoming Undergraduate Students: McCracken Alumni Referral Scholarship (MARS), UIW Top 5% Scholarship, UIW Direct Admit Scholarship
    • Incoming Graduate Students: Tuition discounts for Delta Mu Delta members and undergraduate students accepted to a graduate program (discounts honored for students graduating before June 1, 2019 and enrolling in the 2019-2020 academic year).
