Scholarship Resources

The University of the Incarnate Word is committed to providing educational opportunities to students from all backgrounds, regardless of financial means. We encourage our students to seek additional scholarships to finance their education through community organizations and foundations or accessing the opportunities listed below. The Guide to Applying for Scholarships can assist students with getting started.

  • 2020-2021 Baptist Health Foundation (BHF) Scholarship
    Open to U.S. citizens enrolled full-time in one of the following programs: Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Traditional BSN, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Master of Nutrition, Doctor of Optometry, Nuclear Medicine, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Must have a permanent residence within the BHF's service area (approved counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson) with intent to remain and seek employment in one of the eight counties post graduation. Students must also demonstrate financial need determined by the 2020-2021 FAFSA.

  • 2020-2021 UIW Sibling Discount Application
    The UIW Sibling Discount Application is offered to siblings who are simultaneously enrolled as full-time, main-campus undergraduate students.
    Deadline: August 24, 2020 to be considered for Fall/Spring; January 11, 2021 to be considered for Spring only.
  • 2020-2021 Kara Ashley Caldwell Honors Program Memorial Scholarship
    Open to members of the UIW Honors Program.
    Deadline: August 31, 2020
  • Cardinal Chemistry Scholars (C2S) Program
    Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Must be a chemistry or biochemistry major, currently enrolled at UIW or applied for full-time admission with a minimum 2.8 GPA.
  • San Antonio Mathematics Scholars (SAMS)
    Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Must be a mathematics or statistics major, currently enrolled at UIW or applied for full-time admission with a minimum 2.8 GPA.
  • Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship
    Open to Pell-eligible students whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer. Students must have also been less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of his or her parent’s or guardian’s death.
Merit Scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions for full-time main campus undergraduate students. Find more information on UIW Merit Scholarships.

The University of the Incarnate Word offers a number of scholarships to international undergraduate students seeking their first degree. Contact the Office of International Admissions for more information. 

  • #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship
    Beginning Fall 2020, UIW will offer two annual, renewable scholarships that cover 50% of the tuition to selected international first-time in college students dedicated to advancing intercultural learning and understanding at UIW. 
    Scholarship Criteria: Be a first-tIme in college international student who is admitted to UIW for Fall 2020. Graduated from a secondary school outside of the United States. Demonstrated interest and initiative in promoting intercultural learning and exchange (as evidenced in the essay). Completion of a YAWH scholarship application and a 500 - 1,000 word essay, or a two-to-five minute video answering the following prompt, "Tell us about your leadership skills in your school or community, and how you plan to continue applying your leadership skills at the school you are applying to?" 
    Deadline: May 1, 2020 via email to intladmis@uiwtx.edu 
    Renewal criteria: All continuing #YAWH Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time during the Fall and Spring semesters while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0.  The scholarship is renewable for up to fours years based on continuous enrollment at UIW.  
  • The Financial Aid Guide for Studies in the U.S.
    Students from Latin America or the Caribbean can find a listing of scholarships, grants, fellowships and loans, collected by the Rowe Fund program of the Organization of American States (OAS).  For over seventy years, the Rowe Fund has granted interest-free student loans for university studies in the U.S. to supplement other sources of financing.

Fashion Management Scholarship: The Jurren Sullivan Center for Fashion Management awards several scholarships in the spring. The scholarships are announced at The Cutting Edge Fiesta® Fashion Show. These scholarships generally range from $500 to $1,500. For more information and to see a list of scholarships which have been awarded in the past, visit the Fashion Department Scholarships webpage.


Performing and Fine Arts Scholarships: Students interested in performing and fine arts scholarships should contact the designated department for information on auditions and performance dates.

ROTC Scholarships: Students interested in ROTC scholarships should visit the  ROTC website for more information on the program, scholarships and requirements.

Military Discounts: Qualified military students and dependents may be eligible for tuition discounts. For more information, contact the UIW Business Office.

Veterans Education Benefits: The UIW Office of Veterans Affairs can assist students using  educational benefits under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Educational Assistance Programs in the pursuit of their educational goals. Visit the Veterans Affairs website for assistance and to learn about additional  veterans resources.

UIW competes in the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. Scholarships are available and awarded by the coaches of each sport. For information on athletic scholarships, contact the Athletic Office at (210) 829-2722 or visit the Athletics Homepage.

Scholarship Search Engines: Students are encouraged to apply for external scholarships in addition to any UIW awards they receive. There are free search engines that students can use to find more opportunities.

Beginning Summer 2019, the following UIW programs will be discontinued:
  • Incoming Undergraduate Students: McCracken Alumni Referral Scholarship (MARS), UIW Top 5% Scholarship, UIW Direct Admit Scholarship
  • Incoming Graduate Students: Tuition discounts for Delta Mu Delta members and undergraduate students accepted to a graduate program (discounts honored for students graduating before June 1, 2019 and enrolling in the 2019-2020 academic year).
  • Incoming International Students: UIW International Scholarship
  • Returning Students: Upgrade Your Aid Grant
  • UIW Students Traveling Abroad: Global Experience Travel (GET) Award
