Dan Carillo is a guitarist, composer and arranger with extensive international performing experience in major concert halls, jazz clubs and jazz festivals throughout Europe, Asia, North America and South America. As a working musician on the NYC jazz scene, he performed and recorded as a guitarist, featured soloist, and arranger with Harry Belafonte, Tania Maria, Jon Lucien, Lonnie Liston Smith, the Paul Winter Consort, Chico Hamilton, Dianne Reeves, Dave Brubeck, John Patitucci, and Letta M’Bulu, and in numerous radio and television jingles, television soundtracks, and feature film soundtracks. Carillo has released five recordings of original music, Crossings of the Spirit and Child’s Play for Iris Records, Homage for Imara Music, Liminal Space, and Witness, with his trio Common Good. In August 2025, Carillo recorded eight of his compositions in New York City with bassist John Patitucci and drummer Adam Cruz to be released in late 2026. He holds a BA and MA in music composition from the City College of New York, where he studied with Mario Davidovsky. He joined the CCNY faculty as an adjunct in 1986 and accepted a full-time, tenure-track position in 1989. He served as Director of the Jazz Studies Program for 10 years, chair of the Music Department Curriculum Committee for 15 years and served on the Faculty Council for several terms. retired from CCNY in 2018 and relocated to San Antonio in 2019.
