Dr. Dorothy Haecker is a native of San Antonio and a graduate of UT-Austin. She completed her graduate studies in philosophy at The University of Kansas at Lawrence. She has taught for many years in many interesting places in California, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas. She was the first woman to teach a philosophy course at Leavenworth State Penitentiary; she taught the first Feminist Philosophy class in 1972 at California State University at Chico. She was the founding director of the Women Studies Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has been a social justice advocate and activist since the Civil Rights Movements of the 1960's. She has written three introductory textbooks for her students: Adventures in Philosophy - A Study of Ideas that Change the World, Ethics - A Study of the Human Search for Morality, and Thinking Like A Woman - An Introduction to Feminist Philosophy.
