Dr. Michelle Tabit came to the University of the Incarnate Word in 2012, where she is an Associate Professor of History. Before coming to UIW, she was an Assistant Professor of History at Defiance College in Defiance Ohio. Dr. Tabit maintains an active research agenda that focuses on using popular culture to teach history. She presents annually at the American Popular Culture Association’s international conference and recently published an essay “Where No Woman Has Gone Before: Kathryn Janeway Breaking the Glass Ceiling or Reinforcing Stereotypes?” She is an active member of the UIW community, serves on several University committees, regularly teaches women’s history, Star Trek History and Culture, Harry Potter History and Culture, and War and Society. Tabit holds a Ph.D. in history with an emphasis on US and women’s history, with a master’s degree in Public History both degrees are from Washington State University.
