Dr. Doug Gilmour served as Chair of the Philosophy Department for many years and has been an innovative contributor to the department's curriculum and an active member of the university community. He received his BA in Philosophy and English from the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. from Duke University. He has held the distinguished Moody Professorship and received UIW's Presidential Teaching Award. His research interests include Aesthetics: Philosophy of Art and Beauty, 19th Century German Philosophy, the Philosophy of Black Music, and the Philosophy of Love.
