Ivan Yael Talancon Flores is a double bassist and educator whose career spans orchestral performance, chamber music, and teaching across the United States, Mexico and Israel. He recently completed an Artist Diploma in Double Bass at Texas Christian University, where he was the recipient of a full TCU Music Scholarship. Ivan holds a master’s degree in Contrabass Performance from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Concordia University Irvine. He received formal training from prominent double bass performers such as Andres Martin, Matt Hare, Micheal Klinghoffer, Yuan Lu and Paul Unger.
As an orchestral musician, Ivan has performed with ensembles including the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de Baja California, and numerous professional orchestras in Texas. He is currently a section bassist with the New Texas Sinfonia and the San Angelo Symphony. He has served as principal bassist for The Conducting Institute’s Lab Orchestra under the direction of Miguel Harth-Bedoya and has extensive experience as a substitute and section player in symphonic and operatic settings.
Ivan’s work has been recognized through multiple honors, including prizes at the Samnium University International Orchestra Competition and soloist awards with the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra and the San Diego Young Artist Symphony. He has also been supported by scholarships from the Kolstein Foundation and the Younes and Sorayan Chamber Music Fund in Israel.
An active educator, Ivan maintains a private studio and has taught extensively in both the U.S. and Mexico. He is the founder and board member of the Aula Virtual Latinoamericana de Contrabajo, an international platform dedicated to bass education and collaboration throughout Latin America.
