Thanksgiving Blessings | A Message from President Evans
Dear UIW community,
In this season of gratitude, we are inspired to count our blessings and consider everything for which we are grateful. For me, that includes our students, faculty, staff, CCVI Sisters and all who make up our Incarnate Word family. In that spirit, I want to extend my thanks to you for all that you bring to UIW. Your dedication, creativity and care for one another make our Cardinal spirit shine.
We saw just one example of our dazzling spirit during last weekend’s Light the Way Holiday Festival. We came together as a community of international scholarship and commemorated that on stage when our provost, Dr. Eva Fernández, the rector of UIW Campus Bajío, José Antonio López Verver, and the rector of Centro Universitario Incarnate Word, Maria Fabiola Iturbide, joined me on stage to flip our switch and illuminate the million Christmas lights that brighten up our Broadway campus throughout the season. I was delighted to see Cardinals, faculty and staff join us from many of our campuses, not to mention so many alumni who came home to the Nest! We are the Word in the world and a shining example of faith and education in action.
As I have for several years, I would like to share with you a prayer that is very dear to me. It is a favorite for many reasons, but perhaps principally because it brings to mind the words of the original call to our Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and inspires us, in our own ways, to say YES whenever we are called to share our light with others.
Heavenly Father,
We give you thanks for our many blessings,
especially those that we may take for granted.
We thank you for our loved ones,
for the lessons we have learned,
for the opportunities we have been blessed with
and for your ever-present love.
Lord, we ask that you help us to do all things in love,
for through love, You are glorified.
We pray for those who have lost loved ones,
who may be alone this Thanksgiving
and for all who are suffering.
May they feel Your comfort today.
Help us to be Your hands so that we may provide relief.
Help us to create joy where there is darkness.
As You are the Light of the World,
help us to be that light in the lives of others.
Amen.
I wish you all a blessed and restful Thanksgiving holiday.
Praised be the Incarnate Word!
Sincerely,
Thomas M. Evans, PhD
