Easter Blessings | A Message from President Evans
Dear students, faculty and staff,
I write to you with a spirit filled with the hope of the Easter season. Holy Week invites us to pause, to reflect on the miracle of the resurrection, and to consider how we live out Christ’s commandment to love the Lord and our neighbors.
In his Palm Sunday homily, Pope Francis wrote that “Jesus’ passion becomes compassion whenever we hold out our hand to those who feel they cannot go on, when we lift up those who have fallen, when we embrace those who are discouraged.” He called us to carry our own crosses and one another’s.
I am blessed to see this work, this love, in action across our university community every day. Among our Cardinals, it is in the daily acts of kindness, the compassion they show for their peers and community, and in every service effort. In our faculty, it is in their tireless formation of our students and in their demonstration of our living Mission. It is also in the care and diligence of our staff who support and maintain our university, ensuring it remains a community of faith and education unlike any other.
As I do every year at this time, I again share with you our university prayer that expresses our unique ethos and call to carry forth the compassion and love of the Incarnate Word.
University of the Incarnate Word Prayer
Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word,
Son of God and Son of Mary,
you are Emmanuel: God-with-us.
We praise and thank you for your life,
your love, your death, and resurrection.
We ask you, please,
send your Holy Spirit
to enlighten our minds with your truth
and to enflame our hearts with love for you
and for all human persons everywhere on earth.
Soften our hearts to the needs of the poor.
Inspire us to use the knowledge we are acquiring here to:
understand better your plan for creation,
bring about justice,
and alleviate human suffering
everywhere on your good earth.
Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of the Church,
pray for us that we may always say
“Yes”
to God's call in our lives.
Amen
I wish you and your families a very blessed Easter.
Praised be the Incarnate Word!
Sincerely,
Thomas M. Evans, PhD
