VIA U-Pass

The University of the Incarnate Word has partnered with VIA Metropolitan Transit to offer the U-Pass benefit to all eligible students, faculty and staff.

When boarding VIA, present the VIA U-pass on your phone to the bus operator when boarding. The U-Pass is perfect for the student on the move and on a budget. With convenient bus service to campus, the U-Pass is also a great choice for employees.

The U-Pass gives you access to unlimited bus rides on VIA throughout the semester. With free high-speed Wi-Fi available on all buses and transit centers, you can spend more time reading, studying, checking e-mails and staying connected.

VIA travels throughout the greater San Antonio area and provides a wide range of bus stops and park-and-ride locations.

Steps to accessing your VIA U-Pass benefit

  1. You will receive an email at the beginning of each semester notifying you of your eligibility from UIW with steps to access your VIA U-Pass benefit.
  2. Download the VIA GoMobile application from your app store.
  3. Create an account using your UIW email. Make sure to use “@uiwtx.edu” and not “@student.uiwtx.edu.” This applies to everyone no matter your status – employee or student.
  4. Once you have created your account, go to “Tickets” where you should see the next U-Pass benefit available for use.

If you don’t see your VIA U-Pass benefit available, please email campuslife@uiwtx.edu for guidance.

UIW main campus full-time undergraduate students and graduate students who are registered during the fall and/or spring semesters are eligible to use the VIA U-Pass benefit.

For those eligible, the VIA U-Pass benefit is at no cost. Funding from your full-time banded tuition allows you to receive this benefit at no extra cost.

You can access your VIA U-Pass benefit by downloading the VIA GoMobile application and creating your student account using your UIW email.

If you think there has been a mistake regarding your eligibility, contact Campus Life. They can be reached (210) 829-6034 or by email at campuslife@uiwtx.edu. They will need your name, UIW email and PIDM so they can work with the UIW VIA support team to help resolve your issue.

If you are an eligible student but do not have a smart phone with the capabilities to download the app or you are an international student without the app available to your app store, contact the Campus Life Office to schedule an appointment. A Campus Life representative will need to verify your inability to access the VIA GoMobile app and then issue a physical one-time U-Pass sticker that can only be issued and placed on your most recent Student ID. Any replacement U-Pass stickers will need to be purchased from the UIW Business Office at the expense of the student.

When creating your account, be sure to use @uiwtx.edu and not your normal email suffix @student.uiwtx.edu. All users, employees, undergraduate and graduate students must use the same email ending.

With the VIA U-Pass, you have unlimited rides on the VIA public transportation system for the semester date ranges. There are two different U-Pass options or date ranges: Fall U-Pass (August – December ) and Spring U-Pass (January – July 31).

Special events are excluded.

Yes, even if you are ineligible, you can still buy a VIA bus pass. The cost for a VIA bus pass will be $38.00 and you can purchase them from the Campus LIfe Store Front. After the purchase bring the receipt to the Campus Life office and show your receipt to get your bus pass.
