A New Leader and New Progress Update | A Message from President Evans

February 12, 2025

Dear students, faculty and staff,

As Dr. Dimitri Tamalis, Interim Provost, communicated last fall, we have embarked on a comprehensive analysis of the School of Professional Studies (SPS), which encompasses our online and continuing education programs. The landscape of online and adult continuing programs is evolving rapidly. In keeping with this rate of change and leveraging our own history in online program innovation, we are re-envisioning the leadership role for SPS. I am eager to share with you our next steps in strengthening this important division of academic offerings.

UIW ClocktowerTo identify an innovative professional with extensive experience leading online and continuing education programs, we again partnered with The Registry, a firm dedicated to finding exceptional and well-vetted executives for interim leadership positions. Beginning February 18, Judith F. Kornberg, PhD, begins her new role as Interim Executive Director of Professional, Continuing and Online Programs (PCO), which includes operational oversight of the School of Professional Studies. As interim executive director, Judith will lead the development of a comprehensive, inspiring and actionable strategic vision for PCO that aligns with university strategic goals. Judith brings with her extensive experience leading online and continuing education at Virginia Commonwealth University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the Fashion Institute of Technology and others. She has also served as Associate Provost at Berkeley College.

Judith will report directly to me until a permanent provost has begun their tenure at which time the reporting structure will be revisited. She will also be officing out of our SPS offices located at St. Anthony Catholic High School.

As we welcome Judith, we also thank Jonathan Lovejoy for his leadership during his 11-year tenure at UIW during which he served in many capacities, including as Interim Dean of the School of Professional Studies. He also served for many years as Senior Director of Military and Veteran Affairs and as champion for the Strategic Priority dedicated to making UIW a premier provider of educational services to military and veteran students. Under his leadership, UIW rose to become the No.1 ranked university for veteran students in the nation according to the Military Times. With his dedicated team, he led the development of new student support systems, activities and partnerships. Please join me in wishing him the best as he departs for a new opportunity. A search has been opened for his replacement and Dr. Tamalis will have more to share later in the spring.

UIW is experiencing a period of great opportunity with new leaders bringing new ideas to our community. I thank you all for your partnership as we welcome them and work together as One Word to continue serving our Cardinals and living our Mission.

Praised be the Incarnate Word!

Sincerely,

Thomas M. Evans, PhD
President
