UIW School of Nursing and Health Professions Makes Strides at Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk
The University of the Incarnate Word School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) proudly joined thousands of community members for the annual Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk, demonstrating the power of community, compassion and their shared commitment to the fight against breast cancer.
Led by team captains Lyndsay Karimisaleh, EdD, CSM and Jennifer Rendon, DNP, APRN, AG-ACNP-BC, the SNHP team earned a coveted spot in the event's Top Teams Tent, recognizing the event's leading fundraising teams. With an impressive 131 registered participants, SNHP was the largest of the San Antonio Top Teams, bringing together faculty, students, friends and family in support of breast cancer awareness, research and those affected by the disease.
For many students, the event was more than a walk. It was an opportunity to connect with the community and reflect on the importance of compassionate care beyond the classroom and clinical setting.
“I thought it was great to see the amount of people coming out to support the cause and all of the different groups that came together,” shared student Julissa Hernandez, who noted that unexpectedly running into family members at the event reinforced just how many lives are touched by breast cancer.
Student Alina Moctezuma shared that her motivation for participating was “to raise awareness, support those affected by breast cancer, and honor the survivors and loved ones who have been impacted by it.”
For nursing student Adeola Babajide, the experience offered a powerful reminder of the human side of healthcare. “Participating in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk reminded me that nursing goes far beyond the bedside and hospital walls,” Babajide reflected. “As a future nurse, moments like these remind me why I chose this profession. It’s not just about providing compassionate medical care but also about raising awareness, offering hope and reminding people that they are never alone in their fight.”
The School of Nursing and Health Professions extends its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who walked, donated and supported the team. Together, the UIW community demonstrated that living the University's Mission of Service means showing up for others, both inside and outside the classroom.
