UIW Celebrates National Night Out 2026
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign dedicated to fostering police-community partnerships and neighborhood connections. Celebrations like this show how our campus community looks out for one another while connecting with the vital resources that keep us safe.
Red joined the fun by visiting the Friendship Garden to celebrate campus safety, wellness and community! From practicing self-defense moves and talking safety with UIW Police to visiting the Flu Vaccine Clinic, there was plenty to learn. Red also rallied with UIW Cheer and hung out with McGruff the Crime Dog, H-E-Buddy, and Bill Miller Bar-B-Q's Sweetie.
Students enjoyed learning about all the resources available to them on campus to stay active. They were happy to learn about several clubs they can join such as water polo, basketball, volleyball, pickleball and spinning class. Several students shared their thoughts about National Night Out.
“I really enjoyed the event because I got to learn about resources on campus that I didn’t know were available to students. It was also a fun way to meet people and see everything UIW has to offer,” shared Harper Rose.
Travis Miller said, “I liked that the event focused on both health and wellness. I was able to learn more about health services, vaccines and different ways to stay active on campus.”
“My favorite part was learning about club sports and the different ways we can stay active and get involved. It made me want to participate more on campus,” said Isabela Rios.
Paloma Castillo happily shared, “I loved the vibe! There were a lot of different booths, activities, giveaways and useful information. It felt like a fun event, but I also left knowing more about the resources available to me.”
“I didn’t realize how many services and benefits were available to students. I learned about health resources, discounts and other opportunities that I can take advantage of as a UIW student,” stated Valentina Vega.
“It was nice to see organizations from both UIW and the community come together for students. I got useful information, enjoyed some samples and giveaways, and of course got to take a picture with Red,” shared Mateo Treviño.
Thank you to Campus Life, UIW Police, our student organizations, and all our community partners for creating a safe, unforgettable evening!
