UIW Celebrates 40th Peace Day

October 29, 2026

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the University of the Incarnate Word hosted its 40th Peace Day event, which promotes the Bible’s central themes of peace and justice. From their very first days the founders of the university, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, have promoted the human dignity of all people. peace day 2026

In 1986, the University held its first peace fair and dedicated its Peace Pole monument in conjunction with the launch of its Master of Arts in Peace and Justice program. This degree was based on the words of Pope Paul VI: “If you want peace, work for justice.” Since then, the celebration has evolved into a month-long series of events held throughout October, exploring ways to foster peace and justice for all. Peace Day remains a cornerstone of these annual observances.

This year’s event featured presentations from a variety of speakers, both in person and virtually. Many discussed books, art and other works that examine historical and contemporary instances of violence, exploring their impact on society and encouraging thoughtful dialogue about how individuals and communities can help build a more peaceful world.
