On October 17, UIWSOM students and faculty stepped beyond the classroom and into the community for Mission in Motion: a Mission Houses initiative designed to promote service, wellness, professional growth and meaningful connection.
Participants volunteered at community organizations, supported outreach efforts, attended educational programming and explored wellness opportunities throughout San Antonio. Our students demonstrated a commitment to compassionate service and lifelong learning through serving local families, literacy programs, outdoor activities and professional development events.
Among the highlighted events were Mission Houses Book Buddies Sessions, FDM Academy hosted on UIWSOM Campus, ROAM and R&W Hike at Guadalupe River State Park, as well as AMWA Diaper Bank Volunteer Event and Volunteering at Southside ISD Food Bank.
“The day was a powerful reminder that medical education extends far beyond lectures and exams,” shared Kimberly Villalpando, PhD. She continued “by engaging with community partners, building new relationships and giving back to those around us, participants embodied the values of UIWSOM while making a meaningful impact across San Antonio.”
Thank you to all who participated at Mission Houses through service, leadership, and community engagement. Together, they showed that even a single day of action can strengthen connections, broaden perspectives, and make a lasting difference.
