H-E-B School of Business and Administration Students Receive Financial Executives International Scholarship
On Thursday, Feb. 22, UIW H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) students Kayla Lewis and Jbyr Reynoso attended the Financial Executives International (FEI) San Antonio Chapter Academic Awards Dinner and Networking Reception as the recipients of the Dr. Keith Russel Memorial Award for Academic Excellence.
Each year, the chapter selects one finance student and one accounting student from each university in the San Antonio area to receive the $2,000 scholarship. Students are evaluated based on their scholastic achievements, election to honor societies, employment, community service and their involvement in extracurricular activities. Lewis and Reynoso were honored as this years’ UIW recipients of the scholarship.
Dr. Jeannie Scott, dean of HEBSBA and member of the San Antonio chapter of FEI, accompanied the students to this year’s dinner reception. “It was an honor for me to see these exceptional students receiving this type of recognition,” she shared.
In addition to being awarded their scholarships, Lewis and Reynoso also had the opportunity to network with financial executives and other students from local universities, allowing them to expand their relationships in the world of accounting and finance.
“The scholarship dinner was a great opportunity for fellowship with other scholarship recipients, Dr. Scott and members of the FEI board and sponsors,” expressed Lewis. “I would like to thank FEI and UIW faculty and staff for choosing me to receive such an honor. Being a recipient of the scholarship will assist me in my goal to graduate from such a prestigious university debt free. I am truly blessed and grateful!”
"I am very grateful to the FEI San Antonio chapter and my school's faculty who awarded me with the scholarship,” remarked Reynoso. “Going to the ceremony was a wonderful experience and presented me with an opportunity to meet other hard-working and ambitious individuals as well as a new perspective on the future and what can be achieved. This scholarship came to me as a surprise and is yet another source of motivation to keep pushing further and learning."
“I want to thank them for being such exceptional representatives for the HEBSBA,” added Scott. “They are definitely role models and I wish them great professional success.”
The FEI connects financial leaders through exchanging ideas about best practices, defining the profession, educating members and stakeholders and working with the government to improve the general economy. The San Antonio Chapter of FEI contributes to this mission locally by promoting fellowship and interaction among members, strategic partners and the local community.
