University Once Again Honored for Annual Crime-Fighting Event

Students at a table at the National Night Out eventSan Antonio – Dec. 16, 2019 - The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) has once again been honored for its National Night Out event. The San Antonio Police Department selected UIW as its first-place recipient for National Night Out in the university and college category. UIW has placed first in that category the last two years and four of the last five years.

NNO at UIW: Speak Up, Speak Out was the perfect opportunity for students, faculty and staff to meet the UIW Police Department, members of the Environmental Health and Risk Management Team and more. Interactive games and free T-shirts were also on-site, along with food and door prizes.

“The success of this event is due in large part to the collaboration across the campus,” says Paul Ayala, dean of Campus Life. “Campus Engagement, Residence Life, Communications and Marketing, Wellness and UIW PD are just a few of the departments whose support and work contribute to such a tremendous event. But make no mistake about it, this is about the students. It’s their presence and their sense of community that have made the UIW National Night Out a success for so many years.”

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. The State of Texas and select areas celebrate NNO the first Tuesday in October.
