UIWRSO Student Wins Alcon National Award

San Antonio – The University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) is proud to announce that Lavang Lee, UIWRSO Class of 2018, has been selected as the 2018 Alcon Case Report Award National Winner. Tom Duchardt, Alcon’s director of professional relations, presented the award at UIWRSO’s award and hooding ceremony held, Thursday, May 10.   

“This is a great accomplishment and reflects well on her abilities and the quality of our institution,” said Dr. Timothy Wingert, dean of UIWRSO.

Each year, 4 th-year students from optometry schools around the country have the opportunity to enter a case report on a particular topic. Alcon’s 2018 case report topic was “Successful contact lens wear and the impact of a healthy ocular surface.”

Each school then selects an awardee from case reports submitted by their 4 th year students. The case report winners from each school receive $1,000 and the opportunity to compete for the national award. Winning entries are reviewed by a panel of independent doctors, who select the national winner. The 2018 national winner received an additional $5,000 award.

Lee graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry. on Friday, May 11.
