UIW Celebrates 10th Year as a Great College to Work For
San Antonio – The sound of mariachi music welcomed University of the Incarnate Word employees to a special luncheon held in their honor on Thursday, July 19 in the ballroom of the Student Engagement Center. Spearheaded by UIW President, Dr. Thomas M. Evans and the Office of Human Resources, the Employee Celebration was designed as a “thank you” to the hundreds of University employees who work every day on behalf of the institution, in fulfillment of the University’s Mission, and toward the transformation of students’ lives.
“We have so much to celebrate,” Evans said to the 350 employees gathered at the celebration on main campus, and to the employees watching via livestream and celebrating from UIW campuses around San Antonio. “Thank you for your patience, your perseverance and for your persistence in placing the University of the Incarnate Word’s Mission above all individual pursuits.”
In addition to sharing great successes in fundraising and increases in enrollment numbers for incoming classes in programs across campus, Evans was delighted to announce that UIW was once again named one of the “Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education. UIW has made the list for 10 consecutive years, and for nine consecutive years, has earned the Honor Roll distinction, which recognizes the top 10 four-year schools in their size category. UIW was included in the medium size category by enrollment.
This year, UIW received recognition in the following categories:
- Collaborative Governance
- Compensation and Benefits
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Job Satisfaction
- Professional/Career Development
- Respect and Appreciation
- Supervisor or Department-Chair Relationship
- Teaching Environment
- Tenure Clarity and Process
- Work/Life Balance
The list, published annually by The Chronicle of Higher Education, is generated via a two-part assessment, which includes a survey of faculty and staff, and an institutional audit. The selected institutions are those that have worked to create great work place environments for their employees.
