Weather Notice: January 11, 2024
Attention Cardinals,
An arctic blast, which includes freezing conditions and the low chance for light freezing precipitation, is expected in the San Antonio area beginning Sunday, Jan. 14. Currently, little, or no measurable precipitation is anticipated. As most University offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, operations and classes are currently expected to resume as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Please monitor conditions in your area and exercise your best judgment before venturing out on roadways. Take extreme caution, as ice may not be easily visible on surfaces.
- Students should notify their instructors promptly if weather conditions will prevent them from attending class.
- Faculty and Staff should coordinate closely with their deans and departments if weather conditions impact their ability to teach or work in person.
Take early precautions to protect exposed pipes that could burst from a hard freeze, and ensure proper shelter and protection is provided for people, pets, and vulnerable vegetation. Pay close attention to trusted sources like the National Weather Service for any forecast changes through this weekend. Students and employees living and/or working on campus should limit outdoor activity and proceed with caution.
University officials will continue to monitor local weather conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant.

Resident move-in days and times will continue as scheduled. Resident students will be notified via email if there are any changes or updates to the move-in schedule.

If you do not plan to participate, please let event organizers (Arturo Chavez, aechavez@uiwtx.edu) know not to expect you. If you plan to participate, be prepared by dressing warmly. Layer your clothing, wear gloves, a warm hat, and comfortable, warm shoes. To complete the look, wear your UIW red and black T-shirt (over long-sleeved layers) or jacket as the final layer. UIW T-shirts and hand warmers will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
