Weather Notice

January 13, 2024

Attention Cardinal Community,

The National Weather Service has issued the following updates to the forecast in the UIW area.

An Arctic Cold Front arrives tonight bringing with it a rapid drop in temperatures. The front will arrive this evening (north areas) and push through the region overnight tonight. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6pm Sunday to 12pm Monday for all but the Rio Grande Plains for the possibility of ice accumulations up to 1/10”.

Note: The front will bring bitterly cold wind chill values and risk for hypothermia and frostbite for those not taking proper precautions Sunday night through Wednesday morning.

Take precautions now to protect exposed pipes that could burst from a hard freeze, and ensure proper shelter and protection is provided for people, pets, and vulnerable vegetation. Avoid spending time outdoors. If you must go outdoors, dress warmly with multiple layers, and cover extremities with gloves, warm footwear and a hat.

Travel impacts from freezing rain/drizzle are possible.

  • There is a 20-40% chance of light freezing drizzle/rain with accumulations up to 0.10 inches
  • Travel may be impacted especially on bridges, overpasses, elevated surfaces
  • Highest totals likely along/east of I-35

The Arctic cold will stay in place Sunday - Wednesday.

  • Hard freezes are likely Monday through Wednesday mornings
