See the schedule of events for Stories of Truth and Transformation below. Join as much as you are able and propose topics that would be of value for you as an educator to kirk@uiwtx.edu. Guests must register to participate.

Events listed by day

  • 9 a.m. – Noon: Virtual Gathering for San Antonio educators
    • Topics will include:
      • Listening to our own stories and learning to listen to others' stories more deeply
      • Compassion for ourselves and others as we listen and learn.
      • Stories and cultures
      • The value of stories in education.
  • Noon – Gathering as you wish, where you wish
  • 1 – 5 p.m.- Workshops, service projects, site visits, networking, creating oral histories
  • 5:45 p.m.- Mural tour of Southwest San Antonio
    • Followed by discussion and potluck at Inner City Development
  • 6 p.m.- Potluck Suppers
    • Educators and/or educators' families, and friends gather for potluck suppers in whatever ways bring them joy! Make a suggestion and we will post it!

      • “True Stories” – not being afraid to speak about challenges, pain and injustices
      • Learning and teaching the stories of San Antonio from segregated neighborhoods to our city’s heroic social justice warriors
      • Listening more deeply to others’ true stories
      • Finding meaning in stories, reframing stories, and stories that heal.
  • Noon - Gathering as you wish, where you wish
  • 1 – 5 p.m.- Workshops, service projects, site visits, networking, creating oral histories
  • 5:45 p.m.- Mural tour of Southwest San Antonio
    • Followed by discussion and potluck at Inner City Development
  • 6 p.m.- Potluck Suppers

  • 6 p.m.- Stories from our Childhood, Foods from our Ancestors
    • Join Yesenia Alcala for a potluck supper, share and listen to childhood stories, and enjoy a cooking session featuring recipes from Alcala’s ancestors. Guests who wish may bring food from their own ancestral traditions.
  • 9 a.m. - Noon: Virtual Gathering for San Antonio educators
    • Topics will include:
      • “Stories of Transformation” - how do we co-create a better future?
      • Becoming a hero in my life story
      • Transforming stories in San Antonio
      • Uniting stories in our global family
  • Noon - Gathering as you wish, where you wish
  • 1 - 5 p.m.- Workshops, service projects, site visits, networking, creating oral histories
  • 5:45 p.m.- Mural tour of Southwest San Antonio
