What is the Accuplacer?

The Accuplacer EA (Elementary Algebra) is a placement exam that evaluates a student's college math readiness. Students who score a 550 or above on the math portion of the SAT, or a 22 or above on the math portion of the ACT, will be placed directly into college-level math and will not be required to take the Accuplacer EA exam. Students who score below these minimum thresholds will be required to take the Accuplacer EA.

Do I need to take the TSI?

The TSI is a similar placement exam used to determine math placement. UIW does not offer the TSI, but students may take the exam at another institution and send UIW their scores. Scores may be emailed to the Office of Admission at admission@uiwtx.edu or hand delivered. Contact the Office of Admissions at (210) 829-6005 for questions on submitting TSI scores.

What score do I need to receive on the Accuplacer or the TSI

Accuplacer: Students must score a 63 or higher to be placed into college-level math.
TSI: Students must score a 350 or higher in the math portion to be placed into college-level math.

Take the Accuplacer at another college or university

Students who do not live in San Antonio and cannot come to UIW to test may take the Accuplacer anywhere it is offered in their home city. Please note that most other centers do charge for administering the test. Students should contact the alternate testing center concerning these charges. Students must first request a voucher to receive authorization to test at another college or university.

Please arrive 10 minutes early and have identification (drivers license, student id) ready for check-in.
