UIW receives $1 million to support student scholarships
Gift is largest endowed scholarship in the history of university

San Antonio -  The University of the Incarnate Word has received $1 million from the Impetus Foundation to establish the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Endowed Student Scholarship.

The gift marks the largest endowed scholarship in the history of the UIW designed to provide high performing and under resourced students with the financial support and mentoring to participate equally with their peers in “keys to excellence” opportunities, identified by UIW president Dr. Thomas M. Evans in his strategic vision. These “keys to excellence” opportunities proven to promote high achievement are: study abroad, undergraduate and faculty research leading to presentations at conferences and meetings, professional internships, service-learning, and preparation for graduation and professional school including guidance in applying for prestigious fellowships and scholarships.

“We are honored to receive such a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. Alvarez. Their goal to help students participate in activities allowing them to flourish both during their education and in their post-graduate lives is in line with our vision for the university. We are confident that together we will make a difference in the future success of our students,” said Thomas M. Evans PhD.

To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria
