Find scholarships available to business students

Students at the H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) have access to thousands of dollars' worth of scholarships available only to business students.

 

Mike McGuire Scholarship for Mission-Inspired Business Leadership

This is a one-year, $10,000 scholarship to a full-time student of UIW's HEB School of Business and Administration (HEBSBBA), offered in the name of Dr. Michael McGuire, UIW Professor Emeritus of Economics, recipient of the UIW Spirit Award, Moody Professor, Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor to the Central American University (UCA) of El Salvador. Applications are due on Friday, March 4.

Objective

A businessperson is a practitioner who turns dreams into reality. A "mission-inspired business leader" is one inspired by the Incarnate Word's Spirit of service to dream good dreams and make them real for others. This scholarship aims to promote the formation of such leaders through experience and research.

Eligibility

Full-time undergraduate and graduate students of any concentration offered by HEBSBA, as-well as graduating high school seniors who enroll full-time in HEBSBA.

Applications for the 2023 scholarship will open in January 2023

Victoria Preses receives TBHF Scholar Award

HEBSBA partners with the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation to offer two generous scholarships to business students and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The Texas Business Hall of Fame (TBHF) celebrates the achievements of the state’s greatest business leaders and invests in future business leaders through its scholarship program.

TBHF Scholar Award

The H-E-B Scholarship, worth $15,000, is awarded to one UIW business student each year. The scholarship is open to graduate and undergraduate students who exhibit entrepreneurial aspirations and a propensity for leadership and innovation. Applications for the H-E-B Scholarship are open in the spring semester.

The application process for the 2022 TBHF Scholar Award is now open. The deadline to submit your application for consideration by the H-E-B School of Business faculty is Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Review the guidelines below to submit your application.

Nominee Qualifications

The Texas Business Hall of Fame is looking for students who:

  • Exhibit entrepreneurial aspirations and a propensity for leadership and innovation.
  • Exhibit a proven entrepreneurial track record (preferred).
  • Study at an institution of higher learning in Texas and enrolled in or associated with a business or entrepreneurship program in Spring and Fall 2022.
  • Exhibit leadership in campus and community activities.
  • Plan to pursue a career in Texas.
  • Exhibit good academic credentials.
  • Are preferably a graduate or MBA student. Exceptions are made for high quality undergraduate students.
  • Are able to attend the TBHF Annual Scholar Award Luncheon and Induction Dinner. Attendance is required to receive award.

Application Process

Students must submit the TBHF application form and all accompanying materials to Dr. Taylor Collins at tacolli1@uiwtx.edu. The deadline to submit your application is Wednesday, February 16, 2022, by the end of the day. The application form and all other materials must be submitted in one PDF document. Your submission document must include the following:

  • Completed application (click here to complete electronic application)
  • One page narrative (details can be found on the application form)
  • Most recent transcript (unofficial and scanned copies are OK)
  • Resume
  • Professional Headshot (high quality, neutral background)
  • Letter of nomination

After you have submitted your application to Dr. Collins it will be reviewed by faculty at the H-E-B School of Business. After review, three nominees will be chosen and submitted to the Texas Business Hall of Fame for consideration. You will then be interviewed by the TBHF directors in April.

Jairo Cruces

Jairo Cruces was the recipient of the 2021 H-E-B Scholarship. Cruces is the owner and founder of Cruces Cedar Clearing in Ingram, Texas. Read more about Jairo.

Victoria Presas

Victoria Presas was the recipient of the 2018 H-E-B Scholarship. She and her husband own and operate a company that manufactures specially designed trailers for use in the oil field industry. Read more about Victoria.

Frank Rivera II

Frank Rivera II was awarded the H-E-B Scholarship in 2017. Rivera II is an aspiring entrepreneur with experience in the video production industry. Read more about Frank.

Ramil Rodriguez

Marketing alum Ramil Rodriguez was awarded the H-E-B Scholarship in 2016. He is an entrepreneur and also won the Business Plan Competition as a student at UIW. Read more about Ramil.

TBHF Veteran Award

The Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation also offers an award worth $15,000 to military veteran students with entrepreneurial aspirations. Applications for the Veteran Award are open in the spring semester.

The application process for the 2021 TBHF Veteran Award is now open. The deadline to submit your application to the H-E-B School of Business is Sunday, February 21, 2021. Review the guidelines below to submit your application.

  • Exhibit a proven entrepreneurial track record (preferred).
  • Study at an institution of higher learning in Texas and enrolled in or associated with a business or entrepreneurship program in Spring and Fall 2021.
  • Exhibit leadership in campus and community activities.
  • Plan to pursue a career in Texas.
  • Exhibit good academic credentials.
  • Are preferably a graduate or MBA student. Exceptions are made for high quality undergraduate students.
  • Are able to attend the TBHF Annual Scholar Award Luncheon and Induction Dinner on October 28, 2021, in Dallas. Attendance is required to receive award.

Application Process

The deadline to submit your application is Sunday, February 21, 2021, by the end of the day. The application form and all other materials must be submitted in one PDF document. After you have submitted your application to Dr. Collins, it will be submitted to the Texas Business Hall of Fame for consideration among other Veteran Award candidates throughout the state. From all the statewide Veteran Award nominees, 12 will be selected to interview with TBHF directors on April 20. A decision on the recipient will be announced at the end of May.
