New organization connects students with San Antonio business professionals

SAN ANTONIO – The UIW Student Government Association and the H-E-B School of Business welcomed a new student-led organization to campus with the installment of the ISACA Student Group (ISG) on March 5, 2019.

ISACA, or the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, is a diverse global community of more than 145,000 professionals, including more than 70,000 in North America. The association “engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for information systems.”

The ISACA Student Group will partner with the ISACA San Antonio/South Texas Chapter and its membership of 623 professionals from organizations like Rackspace, Ernest and Young, USAA and Frost Bank, among others.

ISG exists to connect UIW students with professionals in the San Antonio business community and develop lasting mentorship connections.

The ISG leadership is a mix of UIW graduate and undergraduate students with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. The founding officers are Joshua Luna, president; Wyomi Aguilar, vice president; Caprice Locket, secretary; and Ashley Luna, treasurer.

Dr. Ron Washington, director of the Management Information Systems department at UIW, is the faculty adviser to the new organization. The leadership team will also partner with Mrs. Skylin Pyles, the representative from the ISACA San Antonio/South Texas Chapter.

ISG is open to all UIW students, regardless of major or classification. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Dr. Washington via email at rwashing@uiwtx.edu.
