More than 50 students attend career-building event

SAN ANTONIO – The UIW Accounting Society hosted a Professional Development Workshop in the Student Engagement Center with more than 50 students in attendance.

The event covered a variety of topics related to navigating the job market. It began with a morning mixer where students mingled with representatives from Ernst & Young.

Dr. Kristin Ramirez, the director of human resources and client care at Mood Texas, conducted a Resume Writing 101 session, during which students were given practical advice for preparing resumes. Students were able to have their resumes reviewed on-site by Dr. Ramirez and HEBSBA faculty.

Michelle Williams with UIW Career Services covered topics like job hunting, interview skills and business attire during her session. She fielded questions from students while offering professional advice.

The keynote speaker for the event was Craig Krause, the owner of Direct Development Training. Mr. Krause spoke on the importance of goal setting and defining success. He encouraged students to set their goals and take meaningful steps toward achieving them.

The Accounting Society plans to hold similar events in the future to prepare students to enter the job market.
