Business students, faculty volunteer for UIW Day of Service
8 students, 5 faculty serve at local children’s home
SAN ANTONIO – A group of students and faculty from the H-E-B School of Business and Administration took time out of their weekend on Saturday, March 24 to volunteer at St. Peter-St. Joseph Children's Home as part of UIW's Day of Service.
The group consisted of faculty members Dr. Josh Bazzy, Dr. Michael McGuire, Dr. Al Rubio, Dr. Joe Labatt and team leader, Dr. Teresa Harrison. The business students in attendance were Abdullah Bin Ganam, Lawson Picasso, Stratton Lopez, Adrian Rubio, Byeonghee Ko, Alyssa Solis, Meshari and Ahmed Alalyani. Dr. Rubio's daughter, Anna, also volunteered.
St. PJ's exists "to be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time," according to its mission.
The business school volunteers cut branches along a fence on the St. PJ's property, raked leaves, loaded branches and debris for disposal, and moved and distributed mulch at a playground on site.
The volunteers worked with St. PJ's Director Belinda Herrera and Maintenance Manager Jose.
