Prior to working at UIW, Professor Faxel performed research on tapeworms and the oral microbiome at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, in Bethesda, Maryland. For her master’s degree, she investigated the immune system’s response to stimuli in mouse models, focusing on B cells. Prof. Faxel joined the UIW Faculty in Fall 2025.
