Dean's Message

Dr. Carlos Garcia

Welcome to the School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (SMSE). I know this is an exciting, and extraordinary time for you and the faculty. We are experiencing an invigorating renewal within the various disciplines with a focus on education through research. I want to share with you some important information about our school.

You have access to many valuable resources. Our teaching faculties are some of the most accomplished scientists, mathematicians and engineers in the world, and many bring considerable industry experience to the classroom. The small student-to-faculty ratio ensures you have plenty of time to get to know your professors and seek their advice both inside and out of class. We are personally invested in each individual’s success.

The SMSE achievement indicators are on the rise. These include increases in undergraduate enrollment, accomplishments in research, and recognition of SMSE excellence through awards to our students and faculty. The various departments bring class instruction to life through internships or practicums, and or through independent projects.

I invite you to explore the opportunity to participate in summer research opportunities in our faculty laboratories. For example, discover the cutting edge work being done in the federal government funded research in the Autonomous Vehicles laboratory, the Superconducting research in physics and the exciting biomedical advancements in biology and biochemistry.

Your education is an investment, and I want to make sure your investment is rewarded. Our approach to education, from our rigorous academic curriculum to the hands-on opportunities we provide our students, allows you to put classroom instruction to work in the real world. This approach is geared toward ensuring you earn the degree and skills that will make you an asset to future employers and prepares you for a rewarding career.

I encourage you to explore how you can help us journey into the future.
