Welcome to the University of the Incarnate Word Department of Biology. Our degree program incorporates a broad range of disciplines including evolution, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, topics in animal and human physiology, microbiology and ecology. Undergraduate students have the opportunity to earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, which will prepare them for a variety of professions in education, biomedical research, careers in business, nonprofit agencies, and government and to entry into health professional schools. In addition to providing degree programs, the Biology department is committed to serving the UIW community by offering and providing support course work for a variety of health professional majors and offers courses that fulfill the core curriculum requirement of a laboratory science for students in all majors.
The Mission of the Biology Department is to prepare students to enter fields in health, education, research, and sustainability by offering relevant and challenging courses and to engage and mentor students to live the Mission by promoting Catholic Social Teaching and service to the community; becoming stewards of Creation; fostering life-long learning through research and scholarly activities; facilitating a diverse community; and promoting scientific and educational excellence.
