Department of Engineering, Computing, and Cybersecurity

Welcome to the Department of Engineering, Computing and Cybersecurity at the School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering at the University of the Incarnate Word. This cutting-edge department offers exciting degree paths that prepare students to become the next generation of technology leaders.

This department houses the Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Engineering, in Mechanical Engineering, in Mechatronics Engineering, in Computer Information Systems (CIS), and Cybersecurity (CSEC). Students in these degree programs can expect a rigorous and dynamic curriculum that blends theoretical and conceptual learning with hands-on lab work and numerous outside-learning opportunities that showcases their scientific skills and problem-solving ability.

Faculty in the department of Engineering, Computing and Cybersecurity are not only experts in the field, but they also continue to advance their skills and gain mastery in the latest developments to help ensure students are well-trained in both the core foundation of each field and their most recent advancements.

Small class sizes and a close-knit community allow our students to work closely and collaboratively with faculty and their peers, helping them form their first professional network. Students can also join the CIS/CSEC Student Advisory Group and the Crypto Cardinals as well as take part in community learning activities via programs such as miniGEMS and SEMI.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

The Department of Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree program with two possible tracks of specialization:

  • Electrical Track
  • Management Track

Students pursuing the Electronic Track explore topics in digital logic, systems and thermodynamics. Management Track students integrate courses in business, economics, accounting and financial management.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

This program prepares students for a dynamic career in engineering with a foundation in the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science. Students will learn to design, analyze, and innovate mechanical systems for a range of industries.

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering

Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering

Students in this program will combine material about mechanical, electrical and computer engineering to develop cutting-edge automated systems and smart devices. This interdisciplinary program trains students to excel in the growing fields of robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing.

B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering

Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems

This fast-paced program challenges students to approach problems with deep technical expertise, an analytical mind and creative ingenuity. Students of the B.S. in CIS can further tailor their program by choosing one of three concentrations:

  • B.S. in CIS with a concentration in Cybersecurity
  • B.S. in CIS with a concentration in Networking
  • B.S. in CIS with a concentration in Programming

B.S. in Computer Information Systems

Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Systems
