Faculty member co-edits book and publishes article on literacy education

Dr. Stephanie Grote-GarciaDr. Stephanie Grote-Garcia, professor of Teacher Education in the Dreeben School of Education, is the co-editor of a new book exploring current trends and issues in literacy education. What’s Hot in Literacy: Exemplar Models of Effective Practice Vol: 11, published in September by Emerald Publishing Limited, is ideal for teachers across early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school. The book chapters include topics on digital literacy, disciplinary literacy, early childhood and adolescent literacies, assessment, instruction, teacher preparation and much more.

Dr. Grote-Garcia also published the article “ What’s Hot in Literacy: New Topics and New Frontiers are Abuzz” in Literacy Research and Instruction, a research-focused journal from the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers. This annual study is now in its 25th year and Dr. Grote-Garcia has plans to co-author a book that summarizes the 25 years of collected data.

Dr. Grote-Garcia is a certified Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher. She is Past-President of the Specialized Literacy Professionals, a special interest group of the International Reading Association. She is a faculty member in the Dreeben School of Education’s Teacher Education Program where she teaches courses on literacy education.
