A note to all prospective transfer students:

Beginning October 1, 2013, Texas law requires all students under the age of 22 to provide proof of immunization against bacterial meningitis in the preceding five years prior to registering for classes. The law, which applies to students at all higher education institutions, both public and private, is meant to protect the health and well being of all on campus. UIW's Health Services offers vaccinations against bacterial meningitis; more information may be found on the Health Services web site. Vaccinations may also be obtained from local clinics, or your primary care physician.

Transfer Admissions Requirements

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) welcomes the applications of students with academic credit hours earned at other accredited colleges and universities. We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition from another institution into the university. The admissions information on these pages pertains to UIW Main Campus programs. The information for ADCaP and UIW Online programs may be found on their respective web sites.

Factors for Admissions Consideration

A primary factor for a transfer student's admission is their cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). Applicants are advised that a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) is required for unconditional admission. Students with a GPA lower than 2.5 may be admitted at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. The Committee reserves the right to place additional conditions or requirements upon the acceptance of such a student. Additional factors considered for admission may include, but are not limited to: letters of recommendation, interview(s), extracurricular activities, and previous work experience.

Transfer Application Process

Transfer applicants must submit official transcripts from each institution attended, a completed application form, and the application fee of $20. Click here to pay the application fee online. In addition, students with fewer than 24 college credit hours are also required to submit an official high school transcript (with SAT or ACT scores) or official GED scores.

Applications for admission are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year for fall, spring, and summer terms. However, it is recommended that the application process be completed in a timely manner, allowing sufficient time to process financial aid awards.

The admission to any major at UIW is a separate process which begins early as the fall semester of the sophomore year. Certain majors, such as Optometry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Nuclear Medical Science, and Computer Graphic Arts, require specific pre-requisite courses and/or require a separate admission processes prior to admission into the major.
