Joyce Building

The Joyce Building, named for esteemed professor emerita of Fashion, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Joyce, CCVI, is home to many programs in the School of Media and Design, including Interior Design, Fashion Management, and Computer Information Systems. Fashion students practice their technique and may take class in the building’s two sewing labs, one outfitted with industry-standard equipment, including a Gerber Garment Technology System for pattern development. Students have access to three designated drawing rooms and large format 3D printers. Interior design students have access to CAD software where they draft plans.

The building also houses four computer labs—including two dedicated to CIS/CSEC students and one to interior design. Computer Information Systems students dive deep into their programming, networking and software work in several of these labs, including a dedicated server lab.

Renovated in 1998 and among the most technologically advanced buildings on campus, the facility also houses the Watson Auditorium, a 135-seat lecture hall used for larger classes.

Administration Building

The Administration Building, or “admin building” for short, is home to the Graphic Design, Communication Arts and 3D Animation and Game Design programs.

3D Animation and Game Design have five computer labs, many of which boast dual monitor set ups.

Graphic Design has two labs in the admin building—one a drawing lab and one a Mac lab.

Students produce newscasts from the UIW TV studio, that features a green room, production control room, studio lights, 4k cameras, switch boards, teleprompters and more—all of which students learn to operate. KUIW, the University’s internet radio station, is produced through the department’s radio studio that is also equipped with industry-standard equipment and a sound-proof booth.

In the admin building, three Mac labs are dedicated for use by Communication Arts students.
