The Wellness Center is encouraging University of the Incarnate Word students to get active by offering free fitness orientations.
For those who want to start working out, but don’t know where to start, fitness orientations may be a solution. Students can sign up for a time slot and work with a personal trainer to learn the basics of cardio and plated weight machines. The appointments are limited to two people at a time, which provides for a more personalized experience.
One of the staffers, Taylor Spells, is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer. Spells, who is seeking additional nutrition and exercise certifications, said she is passionate about helping people achieve their optimal physical and mental well-being.
The fitness orientations are open to current Wellness Center members, UIW students, staff, and faculty. Appointments are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Employees have a reserved 5:15 p.m. slot Wednesdays. The sessions last about 30-45 minutes.
The Wellness Center offers a variety of services for students and faculty. They also follow the seven dimensions of wellness to promote health of all kinds.
If you are interested in registering for a session, visit the Wellness Center page on the UIW website.
