Melinda T Wright

Secretary/Venue Manager Department of Music Office Location: Luella Bennack Music Center r. 225 Phone: (210)-829-3855
Ms. Wright was born and raised in San Antonio but has ties to the Northeast. Her frequent travels in her youth have led to many experiences with independence. She is passionate about helping others and was once a lifeguard and water safety instructor during the Texas summer months. Ms. Wright has been with UIW since 2016. Event management seems to be a family affair, as her sister is a Professor of Sports Administration interested in Sport Facility and Event Management at Ohio University in Athens. Her sister may or may not have been why she diverted from theatre education to venue management. Although her role has expanded to more administrative support, she still enjoys helping facility events by both UIW's ensembles and outside organizations.
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin
Before accepting the position at UIW, Ms. Wright worked with the Tobin Center for Performing Arts in ticketing and at Sea World San Antonio as an entertainment technician. She worked with Texas Performing Arts as a costume stock assistant and administrative secretary as a college student.
Ms. Wright has a knack for crafting, and in her free time, she'll be working on costume sewing projects or painting art.
Ms. Wright has compassion for all of God's creatures. She volunteers with the local rabbit rescue, Alamo City House Rabbits, providing creative support and fostering.
Ms. Wright has a passion for creativity and animals. If not working, you'll find her volunteering her hours to create enrichment items for large cats. She makes pinatas for lions, tigers, leopards and cougars each year at the Center for Animal Research and Education in Bridgeport, Texas, for their annual fall festival. The UIW community has supported this project by donating many newspapers to ensure the kitties have plenty of pinatas to smush.
