Debra Del Toro, Director of Public Relations

Debra Del Toro has been in the public relations and marketing industry for nearly 20 years. Her strengths include media relations, crisis communications, event planning and promotions. Prior to joining UIW in 2004, Debra worked with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, St. Mary’s University and as a freelance PR consultant to the City of San Antonio’s Alamodome. She has been involved with numerous special events including the Rodeo, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, and Disney on Ice. Debra graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Communication Arts.

Margaret Garcia, Associate Director of Public Relations

Margaret Garcia serves the University of the Incarnate Word as Associate Director of Public Relations. She has extensive experience in the public relations industry including work with a local advertising and public relations agency, the Edwards Aquifer Authority, FOX TV Houston and KMOL (now WOAI TV) in San Antonio.

Margaret is the liaison between the university and its two Brainpower Connection high schools, Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) and St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS). Her responsibilities include media relations for UIW, SACHS and IWHS. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.

Veronica Ruiz, Marketing and Advertising Coordinator

Veronica Ruiz serves the University of the Incarnate Word as Marketing and Advertising Coordinator. Veronica has worked as a production assistant at WOAI TV and as a Marketing Coordinator at Armadillo Construction Company.

Her duties at Incarnate Word include scouting new advertising avenues, maintaining advertising schedules and contracts and working with UIW's Mexico City campus. Veronica holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Incarnate Word and is currently working on Master of Business Administration at UIW.

Brance Arnold, Publications Coordinator

Brance Arnold serves as Publications Coordinator for the University of the Incarnate Word. He is responsible for coordinating The Word Magazine, the university’s alumni publication. His duties also extend to the production of the university style guide, media guide, and employee newsletter. He edits various materials and publications for UIW and the high schools of the Brainpower Connection.

He holds experience in marketing, event coordination and sales including positions with Engine Components Inc., The Scooter Store, Jim Keim Ford, Interstate Adjusters Inc., and an internship for the San Antonio Museum of Art.In addition, he is a musician and songwriter as part of a local duo, Chacho & Brance.

Brance holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Communications from St. Mary’s University and a Masters of Arts in Communications from the University of Incarnate Word.

Kayla Rice, Special Events Coordinator

Kayla Rice serves the University of the Incarnate Word as Special Events Coordinator. After an internship with CNN’s Public Relations Department, Kayla developed a strong passion for Communications and has worked within that field in various roles. Most recently she has worked with organizations such as the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Council and H-E-B.

Her duties at UIW include planning and promoting the university’s special events and activities. She serves as lead coordinator for Light the Way™, the annual lighting of the campus celebration. She also assists the Development office with the annual Swing-In Golf Tournament and Auction and alumni phonathon. Kayla holds a Bachelor of Public Administration from Texas State University-San Marcos.

Kathy Davila, Secretary

Kathy Davila is the newest member of the PR team. Her responsibilities include handling daily operations of the Office of Public Relations and managing the work study program.

She is experienced assisting executives in many fields including higher education, having previously worked at Trinity University in both the offices of the Vice President of Student Affairs and the Registrar.
