Accolades for Interior Design

September 19, 2019

UIW’s Interior Design students and faculty are standouts in their fields, and recent awards and showcases have put more eyes on their work than ever.

Faculty is “One to Watch”

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) hands out yearly awards as part of its Ones to Watch program. ASID’s Ones to Watch program highlights young design leaders who embrace and promote exceptional leadership, innovation, and diversity. Each year, up to 20 applicants are honored as ASID Ones to Watch Award Winners within four specialized categories: Design Excellence, Education Leadership, Manufacturing Leadership and Volunteer Leadership.

In July 2019, assistant professor of Interior Design at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Adam Nash was named one of the program’s 20 award winners.

The Ones to watch program identifies young rising leaders within the industry of interior design and recognizes them for their contributions to the industry and its future.

Interior Design Students Take Home Top Prize in  Design

In September 2019, four UIW design students competed at the San Antonio Fall Home & Garden Show as part of the UIW interior design competition. Amber Donaldson, Jennifer Salyer and Sylvia Halbeisen, and Kristin Medrano all created room designs to present  with show visitors voting on the three presentations. The winner earned a $750 prize, second place received $500 and third got $300.

Amber Donaldson won 1st place, Jennifer Salyer and Sylvia Halbeisen finished second, and Kristin Medrano ended third.

The San Antonio Fall Home & Garden show takes place at the Alamodome each year and features home-related products, services, exhibits on interior design and more. For the design competition the three finalists each designed a 10x20-foot vignette space, using the color palette, furniture from CORT furniture, plants from H-E-B, and accessories and artwork from various suppliers.

The three exhibits gave a larger platform to the students in the UIW interior design program to showcase their skills for the general public.
