2024 - UIW Health and Wellness Week

Wednesday - 03/06/24 - Annual Health and Wellness Fair featuring a Farmers Market

11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

UIW Wellness Center

The UIW Health and Wellness Fair will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Wellness Center. Over 40 vendors will be on site to promote healthy living and administer basic biometric screenings. Door prizes will be available. This year we are also featuring a farmers market promoting locally raised fresh fruits and vegetables and sustainability. The event is sponsored by UIW Sports and Wellness, UIW Employee Wellness, UIW Student Wellness and UIW Human Resources.

This event is free to all UIW students, faculty and staff, and the surrounding community.

Monday - 03/06/23 - FIT WAVE

UIW Natatorium in the parking lot and the Outdoor Fitness Complex

UIW Students, Faculty and Staff are welcome to attend the engaging and educational event focused on Health and Wellness Awareness. We are kicking off wellness week on Monday, March 6, 2023 with 10 games. We will be giving away free shirts, and prizes to our attendees.

Tuesday - 03/07/23 - Christus Santa Rosa Digital 3D Mobile Mammograms

9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

UIW Founders Hall Parking Lot

To have a mammogram on the Christus Santa Rosa Mobile Mammogram Unit, you must:

  • Be 40 years of age or older (insurance permitting). Under 40 years of age must have a physicians order for screening.
  • Have not had a mammogram within the past 365 days.
  • Last mammogram must have been negative.
  • Have NO NEW symptoms, such as lumps, pain, skin changes or nipple discharge. (See physician right away if you have changes. Call us if you do not have a physician.)
  • Have not had breast cancer in the last three years.
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding. (A screening mammogram cannot be done until 90 days after breast feeding has been stopped.)

Be prepared for your visit:

  • Bring the name, address and phone number of your physician.
  • If you have had a mammogram in the past, locate your films and bring them to your mammography appointment. If you are unable to do so, bring the location and phone number of where you received the previous mammogram.
  • Bring a valid photo ID.
  • Bring your insurance card (we accept Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances.)*
  • DO NOT wear deodorant, perfume, powders, or lotions.
  • DO wear a two-piece outfit.

A physician order is NOT needed for patients who have seen their physician within a year prior to their mammogram appointment.

* If you do not have insurance or a doctor, please call (210) 703-8100 for details and to learn how you can get a mammogram through the generosity of community funding.

Magda Vega Vidal, a native of Cancun, Mexico and a UIW NCAA Swimmer from 2018 until 2023, earned a Bachelors of Science in May 2022. Magda received the Academic Excellence in Nutrition by an Undergraduate Student Award in April 2022. Currently a dietetic intern as she is pursuing her masters in Nutrition, Magda is the Nutrition Coordinator Graduate Assistant with the Sports and Wellness department. As a Nutrition Coordinator she serves UIW Student Wellness, UIW Employee Wellness and Club Sports. Magda's dream is to become a registered dietitian and specialize in sports nutrition.
