Stations of the Cross
Each Station of the Cross is represented by student and social justice groups from the San Antonio Archdiocese. 15 topic of social justice are presented at each station as a representation of the issues that still affect our world today. UIW, as a part of the San Antonio Intercollegiate Networking Team (SAINT) is this year's host. The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday in Our Lady’s Chapel. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery.
The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.

2015 Corporate Cup
UIW will host the citywide San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup on Saturday, May 30 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the UIW Athletic Complex. Companies from all over San Antonio will compete in field day type activities for points and prizes. UIW is in the large company category against groups such as H-E-B, USAA, Rackspace and more. Women Narrating Themselves
As part of Women's History Month, Ivonne Ayala, Kelly Holguin and Leah Gomez will share their creative autobiographies as they reflect on the most important events, people, and influences in their lives on Monday, March 30 from 3 – 4 p.m. in the Nursing Building, Room 142. We conceive of our identities and sense of self in the form of narratives, and the three presenters will weave their stories through the lens of gender. Where Rivers Meet: Writer's Workshop
The UIW Music Department & CHASS present Architectures of Poetry and Time: A Three-Day Writer's Workshop from March 27 – 29. Learn to use traditional Japanese poetic forms to write new English-language creative works. This workshop will be led by David Crandall, former professional of the Hosho School of Noh Theater and will culminate in the opening of an exhibit of noh-related items at the Central Branch of the San Antonio Public Library. The workshop and exhibit are part of "Where Rivers Meet," an education and performance project supported by UIW, Theatre Nohgaku, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church & School. The Honors Symposium is one of the signature events of the UIW Honors Program. It will be held on Saturday, March 28 from 8:15 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Feik School of Pharmacy Competitive Intramural Scientific Research Awards
Applications are now being accepted for the 2015-16 Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) Competitive Intramural Scientific Research Awards competition. The purpose of the FSOP Research Awards competition is to encourage the individual and collaborative scientific/biomedical research efforts of UIW faculty. This award is intended to assist researchers in producing pilot data, which will enable the investigator(s) to submit for external funding competitions sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), or private foundations. The award is made for the Fall and Spring semesters. All applications must be submitted electronically to Rebecca Ohnemus in the Office of Research Development (ORD) by Monday, April 20. EAP Director Presents at Southwest Decision Sciences Institute
David Stein, EAP director of accreditation and assessment, presented a paper this past week at the Southwest Decision Sciences Institute. The paper was entitled Understanding Rates of Retention of Nontraditional, Undergraduate Students: Leveraging Transcript Data to Inform both Strategy and Tactics. He provided an overview of UIW and the programs offered in the EAP as well as our initial study of EAP rates of student retention. He also concluded with an explanation of how our enrollment management strategies and tactics have been guided by the study findings. These included a general focus on newly recruited students, related staffing changes, and enhancements to our new student orientation programs.

March is National Athletic Training Month. Women’s Global Connection Announcement
Women’s Global Connection (WGC) is available to talk to classes or UIW groups on topics related to global citizenry, cross-cultural competencies, and women’s empowerment. The mission of this non-profit organization is to promote the learning and leadership of women and girls in the least advantaged regions and countries. National Library Week: The Boy Made of Lightning
Join us in welcoming author Barbara Renaud, artist Deborah Kuetzpalin Vasquez and Convergent Media Professor Dr. Joey Lopez for a panel discussion of the writing, illustration and creation of the iBook, The Boy Made of Lightning on Tuesday, April 14 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Narrated by Congressman Joaquin Castro, the book, tells the story of San Antonio native, Willie Velasquez who founded the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project in 1974. In 1995, Mr. Velasquez was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton. The Boy Made of Lightning is an interactive book, containing original artwork, music, pop-up video windows, translations and sound effects.

Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership Survey
Through April 16, a random sample of undergraduate UIW students will be participating in the Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership (MSL). The MSL provides insights on the leadership development and learning needs of college students. This survey will help UIW faculty and administrators measure how we are doing compared to peer institutions and understand how experiences in and out of the classroom impact student capacities for socially responsible leadership. Student Response Groups: Students Helping Students Write Better
Feedback helps any writer improve, but not all feedback needs to come from an instructor. When used well, various types of student response groups can increase the amount of useful feedback students get on their writing. Participants will learn the most helpful kinds of peer feedback, practical strategies for implementing response groups, and pitfalls to avoid. First five faculty participants teaching undergraduate level courses will receive a Title V stipend of $100.00

National Weather Service SKYWARN Spotter Training
The Austin-San Antonio National Weather Service Office offers Skywarn severe weather training throughout year. Most Skywarn trainings are conducted in the spring to coincide with severe weather season and allow citizens, first responders, emergency management, amateur radio operators, and volunteer organizations the opportunity to learn about severe weather preparedness and safety. Scheduled trainings are free and open to the general public. There is no pre-registration unless specifically noted on the schedule or link. This semester’s training is on Saturday, March 28 from 8 – 11:30 a.m. in the Bonilla Science Hall, Room 129.
After training is complete, usually 1.5 hours for the BASIC training, you will be an official weather spotter for the National Weather Service. Real time reports to our office can save lives and property. Post storm reports can help us find severe weather damage, tornado tracks, and verify severe weather warnings.
