Classes are only open to individuals 18 years and older. Participants do not receive college credit for these classes.
- Observation and Visual Memory: June 17, 9 AM to 12 Noon | $90.00 (3 hours; 1 day)
This course will cover 8 exercises that will help improve observation, visual memory and creative connection of ideas. The techniques can be useful for any one that teaches graphic design or any other creative practice. No fee.
- Icon Design: June 18-20, 9 AM to 12 Noon | $270.00 (9 hours; 3 days)
This course will cover techniques on how to create 2 different set of icons. (objects and actions). We will follow a design process starting with research, problem definition, sketching and prototyping, understanding design systems, defining constraints, group critiques and final refinements. We will design a composition using one of the two sets of icons and based on “The Book of Trees. Visualizing Branches of Knowledge” by Manuel Lima. This class will meet in a computer lab with access to all necessary software. No fee.
- Replace the Hate: June 21, 9AM to 1 PM | $120.00 (4 hours; 1 day)
In this workshop you will learn how to use low-tech methods for printing small posters. Topics of design advocacy will be discussed. No fee.
- Sketchnoting 101: June 17, 1 PM to 4PM | $90.00 + $30.00 supply fee (3 hours; 1 day)
In this course, participants will be introduced to a process of visual note-taking using handwriting, drawings, hand-drawn typography, shapes and other visual elements to capture an idea. They will discover the process that allows them to capture ideas more vividly and learn active listening techniques to help them in retaining and recording information. They will also learn how to share their sketchnotes on-line and in print, so that others can benefit from them. Sketchnotes can be created by everyone, regardless of age or drawing ability. Fee.
- Web Design I - HTML & CSS: June 18, 1 PM to 4PM | $90.00 + $30.00 supply fee (3 hours; 1 day)
The basic building blocks of the Web are HTML elements and CSS rules. Armed with a simple open source text editor and a browser, you will learn how to use these building blocks to create patterns that build pages. This class will meet in a computer lab with access to all necessary software. Fee.
- Web Design II - Dreamweaver: June 19-21, 1 PM to 4PM | $270.00 + $30.00 supply fee (9 hours; 3 days)
In this course, you will be guided through the design process to create a simple web site from scratch using industry standard applications from the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of apps (namely Photoshop and Dreamweaver). You will learn how to research, plan, design, and code a website. Topics on web hosting and troubleshooting will be discussed. This class will meet in a computer lab with access to all necessary software. Fee.
Courses are $30/hour. Some courses have an added fee attached for supplies and materials.
Length of Classes
3-4-hour courses are a single day. 9-hour courses take place over 3 days.
