MISSION

Mission and Ministry: Summer Mass Schedule
We will celebrate our last 8 p.m. Mass for the Spring semester on Sunday, May 6.

Masses will continue throughout the summer on Sunday's at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady’s Chapel through August 19, 2018. 

We will celebrate our annual Welcome Mass on Sunday, August 26. Due to limited seating in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word, two liturgies will be offered on this day:
- 10:30 AM (Chapel of the Incarnate Word)
- 10:45 AM (Our Lady's Chapel) 

Our 8:00 p.m. Mass resumes in Our Lady's Chapel on Sunday, September 2, 2018.

  • Noon Mass, Monday – Friday
  • Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. (May 6, final 8 p.m. mass)

Tickets are not required for admission to the Baccalaureate Mass. If you will be attending the Baccalaureate Mass reception, please RSVP here by May 9. William Mulcahy Award for Ecological Stewardship
At the celebration of International Earth Day on Monday, April 23, at the West Gate Circle, the Earth Month Committee presented two awards.  The William Mulcahy Award for Ecological Stewardship (faculty) recipient was Dr. Christopher Edelman of philosophy and the William Mulcahy Award for Ecological Stewardship (staff) recipient was Ruben Garza, grounds superintendent.

Triple Helix Career Panel
The UIW Office of Research and Graduate Studies presented the Triple Helix Career Panel, a discussion that explored what employers expect of degree holders, the skills they need and how we create opportunities for graduate holders to stay and work in San Antonio. Speakers included UIW President, Dr. thomas Evans, The Honorable Justin Rodriguez, State Representative District 125, Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, President and CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and Rebecca Brune, President and COO of the San Antonio Area Foundation.

Adopt-a-Beach
Students and staff from the School of Professional Studies’ Corpus Christi Center and members of the UIW Alumni & Parent Associations participated in the Adopt-A-Beach program in Port Aransas on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The students and staff gathered after the event from left to right are Robert Zapata (current student), Laura Flores (current student) and son, Sandi Rodriguez (current student), Jessica Parra, Corpus Christi Center Director and Priscilla Johnson, UIW Academic Advisor.

Vaccine Drive

Students and staff of the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy provided low-cost vaccines for Southside ISD students on April 26, 2018. The UIW team provided vaccinations for 600 students as well as free health screenings.

On April 26, the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine Health Clinic hosted an open house. Students, faculty, and staff were invited to tour the facilities and learn about the health services offered to the Cardinal family right on campus.

Tree-Centennial
The University of the Incarnate Word took part in San Antonio’s Tree-Centennial program on Tuesday, May 2. The Tree-Centennial initiative, led and managed by the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, honors San Antonio’s Tricentennial (SA300) celebration to enhance the city’s tree canopy and green spaces by planting 300 trees over the course of 2018.

Swing-In

The 41st annual Swing-In event kicked off on Thursday, May 3 with a $400,000 goal to support scholarships for UIW students.

UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine introduces two new medical residency programs in Laredo

Distinguished Laredo residents and UIW representatives gathered at the headquarters of IBC Bank in Laredo, TX on May 1. The purpose of the gathering was to engage residents in Laredo and inform them of the opening of the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine’s two new medical residency programs in Laredo: one family medicine residency and one internal medicine residency, both of which will begin on July 1, 2018. Each residency program is 3 years in length will have 24 residents when fully staffed. The residency programs will be housed at Laredo Medical Center with an additional partnership with the Laredo-based Gateway Health Centers, Inc.  The event was organized under the direction of Mr. Dennis Nixon, President and CEO of IBC Bank. UIW is seeking $700,000 for the start-up costs for the residency program from the Laredo philanthropic community as well as scholarship support for health professions students.

National Day of Prayer Annual Breakfast

UIW Students, faculty and staff gathered for the annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast on May 3 in the Rosenberg Sky Room. The power of prayer is mighty and more important than ever in today’s world. Speakers Dr. Thomas Evans, President of UIW; Danny Anderson, President of Trinity University; George Hernandez, President & CEO of University Health Systems; and Mary Beth Fisk, Executive Director of San Antonio Ecumenical Center sought to answer two questions at the breakfast– why do I pray and how do I pray?

UIW's Ettling Center for Civic Leadership & Sustainability hosted the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Naturalization Ceremony in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room on April 24. One hundred and ninety five residents representing fifty-one countries were naturalized.

Pasha Express stepped up to the plate by raising money for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Pasha donated their sales to the effort raising $1,500 to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Corporate Cup Registration
Join team UIW for Corporate Cup 2018! UIW is a proud sponsor and host site of the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup. Over 80 companies and thousands of employees come to UIW each summer and compete in a 13-event challenge modeled after a corporate Olympics competition. 

San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. Employees can represent Team UIW as a competitor, a volunteer, or a spectator. Families are always welcome to attend but cannot compete (except in the healthy walk). To learn more, visit uiw.edu/teamuiw

Benefits Open Enrollment
Benefits Open Enrollment runs through Wednesday, May 9. Everyone must enroll or waive benefits through Banner Self-Service via the myWord portal. Human Resources will host benefit meetings and working sessions throughout the open enrollment period. Quality Matters Online Course Design Workshop
The Online Course Design Workshop includes an overview of the QM Rubric and provides a framework for participants to design an online course plan. The IT staff and guest speakers will be on hand to help you integrate the QM Rubric and leverage the Blackboard LMS to deliver course materials to students. The workshop is open to faculty who plan to teach online within the next year. Topics for this session include:

• An overview of the QM Rubric
• Bloom’s Taxonomy
• Writing measurable objectives
• Announcements
• SoftChalk
• Mashups and the Kaltura video repository
• Assignments, Safe Assign and the Plagiarism Checker
• Assessments and Respondus Lockdown Browser
• Application of collaborative tools. 

This course is open to faculty who plan to teach online within the next year. The course is available Monday, May 14 through Thursday, May 24 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in Mabee Library Rm. 230. Seating is limited. Make your reservation here.
