Polk Plaque Unveiling Ceremony UIW

On Tuesday, April 10, faculty, staff and friends and family of Adell Ferguson Polk '56, gathered for the official plaque unveiling of the All Faiths Reflection Room. The All Faiths Reflection Room in the Student Engagement Center was previously dedicated in Polk's honor, as Incarnate Word's first black graduate. Mass Schedule for Tricentennial Festival Day
As part of the CCVI Tricentennial event on April 15, the UIW community will join with our Sisters of Charity, residents of The Village at Incarnate Word, and the leadership of CHRISTUS Health System for Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.

There will be no Mass in Our Lady's Chapel at 10:30 a.m. However, 8:00 p.m. Mass will continue in Our Lady's Chapel as scheduled.

National Day of Prayer - Annual Breakfast
The 2018 National Day of Prayer is on Thursday, May 3. The power of prayer is mighty and more important than ever in today's world. Please join us at The McCombs Center, Rosenberg Sky Room on Thursday, May 3 from 6:45 - 8:30 a.m. for the Annual Prayer Breakfast, a special time of community and grace. Listen to speakers Dr. Thomas Evans, President of UIW; Danny Anderson, President of Trinity University; George Hernandez, President & CEO of University Health Systems; Mary Beth Fisk, Executive Director of San Antonio Ecumenical Center; and Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham answer two questions - why do I pray and how do I pray?

Mi Casa es Su Casa

You are invited to be a part of history!

San Antonio is celebrating its 300thanniversary in 2018. The Ministries of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, including the University of the Incarnate Word, are proud to be a part of that history as we collaboratively honor our past, present and future during this historic celebration.

We invite you to participate in the exciting activities planned. There is something for every age group including historical tours and unique exhibits. On Sunday, April 15, please join us for Mi Casa es Su Casa, a free event for the entire family on the UIW campus. Music, dance, storytelling, exhibits and activities will fill the day at this event from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.Visituiw.edu/300/for details!

Tricentennial Festival Event: Taizé Prayer
Founded by Br. Roger Schütz-Marsauche in the small village of Taizé France to offer shelter and hospitality to WWII refugees of the war-torn area, the primary vocation of the Taizé Community continues to be building bridges for communion and reconciliation globally among all people. Our prayer will comprise prayer chants in the contemplative tradition of Taizé in the languages representative of some of the cultures from which Incarnate Word Sisters have come and which have impacted this area of South Texas.

This prayer event is part of the SA300 Tricentennial celebration of ourcity of San Antonio. Join us on Saturday, April 15 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.

Peacebuilding Symposium Schedule

Four visiting Fulbright Scholars will visit San Antonio, TX to participate in a program of campus and community visits at the University of the Incarnate Word, Trinity University, and St. Mary's University. The purpose of this symposium is to have conversations about how we can all contribute to peacebuilding and gain insights into the challenges confronting today's global community and finding collective solutions that promote and facilitate peace. The Peacebuilding Symposium is sponsored by the University of the Incarnate Word, Trinity University, St. Mary's University, Our Lady of the Lake University, the Fulbright Outreach Lecture Fund, Fulbright Association - San Antonio Chapter, World Affairs Council, City of San Antonio - International Affairs, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. 2018 Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show

Save the Date for the 2018 "Cutting Edge" Fashion Show set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. This official Fiesta event displays the latest fashion created and presented by UIW Fashion design students. The collections include garments students have illustrated, designed and constructed in a year-long fashion capstone course. Each collection is centered on an individual theme ranging from a season, a color or market segment. From sound and lighting to staging and contracting professional models, UIW students experience every aspect of planning a professional runway show. A Taste of Fiesta
On Sunday, April 8, 2018 at St. Anthony High School, the Extended Academic Programs hosted "A Taste of Fiesta" Student Appreciation Event & Scholarship Fundraiser for current SPS and SAS students, alumni, faculty and their families. The event included asilent auction, raffle,photo booth, food trucks, live DJ, family activities and a game truck! Incarnate Word High SchoolStudents Receive CPR Kit Donation
On Tuesday, April 10, The American Heart Association in partnership with Keith Zars Pools, presented a CPR kit to the students and staff at Incarnate Word High School. This generous donation comes as a result of the IWHS Ambassadors' efforts in February during the Go Red for Women Campaign. The kit will allow the students to learn the life-saving skill of CPR for many years to come.

Incarnate Word Day: CCVI Spirit Awards
The University of the Incarnate Word celebrated Incarnate Word Day on Tuesday, April 10, with the CCVI Spirit Awards.The CCVI Spirit Award recognizes a member of the faculty, administration, or staff who has demonstrated in service to the University and/or to the broader civic community, the spirit of the founders, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The mission of the University flows directly from this spirit.

Dr. Evans, Sr. Walter Maher, Dr. David M. Jurenovich and Kathy Light gathered with students and members of the Student Government Association on Wednesday, April 11, for an open forum. Students had the opportunity to share concerns, ideas, and unique perspectives with Dr. Evans, with the hopes of helping to create an even brighter future for UIW.

2018 Sr. Margaret Patrice Slattery Lecture
The 2018 Sr. Margaret Patrice Slattery Lecture, entitled "Tourism, Travel Writing, and Tunisia: Cross-Cultural Encounters in Patricia Highsmith's Tremor of Forgery" was presented by Dr. Tanja Stampfl on Thursday, April 12. Dr. Stampfl shared her findings from her forthcoming book on cross-cultural encounters between Arabs, Americans, and Europeans in 20th-century literature.

Tricentennial Lecture: Dr. Amy Porter
The Department of History presented a Tricentennial Lecture, presented by Dr. Amy Porter, on "Women in Early Spanish San Antonio: Adversity and Opportunity on the Spanish Frontier", on Thursday, April 12. Dr. Porter is Associate Professor of History at Texas A&M University, San Antonio.

ABC's of Health Insurance
All benefit-eligible employees are invited to attend the "ABC's of Health Insurance" on April 19. This interactive workshop will provide information on what it means to be on a self-funded healthcare plan, insurance terminology and Q&A, and how to be a Smart Healthcare Consumer. Corporate Cup Registration

Join team UIW in Corporate Cup 2018! UIW is a sponsor and host site of the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup. Over 80companies and thousands of employees come to UIW each summer and compete in a 13-event challenge modeled after a corporate Olympics competition.

San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup will beheld on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. Employees can represent Team UIWas a competitor, a volunteer, or a spectator.
