MISSION

Incarnate Word Day Mass
Incarnate Word Day celebrates the Feast of the Annunciation, Mary's "YES" to God's call, and is the major feast of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, as well as our university.

Because March 25 fell on Palm Sunday this year - the beginning of Holy Week - our Incarnate Word Day Mass will be celebrated April 10 at noon mass at Our Lady's Chapel.

Mass Schedule for Tricentennial Festival Day
As part of the CCVI Tricentennial event on April 15, the UIW community will join with our Sisters of Charity, residents of The Village at Incarnate Word, and the leadership of CHRISTUS Health System for Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.

There will be no Mass in Our Lady's Chapel at 10:30 a.m. However, 8:00 p.m. Mass will continue in Our Lady's Chapel as scheduled.

National Day of Prayer
The 2018 National Day of Prayer is on Thursday, May 3. The power of prayer is mighty and more important than ever in today's world. Please join us at The McCombs Center, Rosenberg Skyroom on Thursday, May 3 from 6:45 - 8:30 a.m. for the Annual Prayer Breakfast, a special time of community and grace. Listen to speakers Dr. Thomas Evans, President of UIW; Danny Anderson, President of Trinity University; George Hernandez, President & CEO of University Health Systems; Mary Beth Fisk, Executive Director of San Antonio Ecumenical Center; and Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham answer two questions - why do I pray and how do I pray?

"A Taste of Fiesta" Student Appreciation & Scholarship Fundraiser Event

A Taste of Fiesta UIW
On Sunday, April 8, 2018 from noon - 4 p.m. at St. Anthony High School, the Extended Academic Programs will host "A Taste of Fiesta" Student Appreciation Event & Scholarship Fundraiser for current SPS and SAS students, alumni, faculty and their families, which will include a Silent Auction and Raffle.Enjoy a photo booth, food trucks, live DJ, family activities and a game truck!

San Antonio is celebrating its 300thanniversary in 2018. The Ministries of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, including the University of the Incarnate Word, are proud to be a part of that history as we collaboratively honor our past, present and future during this historic celebration.

We invite you to participate in the exciting activities planned. There is something for every age group including historical tours and unique exhibits. On Sunday, April 15, please join us for Mi Casa es Su Casa, a free event for the entire family on the UIW campus. Music, dance, storytelling, exhibits and activities will fill the day at this event from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.Visit uiw.edu/300/ for details!

2018 Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show

Save the Date for the 2018 "Cutting Edge" Fashion Show set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. This official Fiesta event displays the latest fashion created and presented by UIW Fashion design students. The collections include garments students have illustrated, designed and constructed in a year-long fashion capstone course. Each collection is centered on an individual theme ranging from a season, a color or market segment. From sound and lighting to staging and contracting professional models, UIW students experience every aspect of planning a professional runway show. Community News

UIW Day of Service
On Saturday, March 24, UIW students, faculty, and staff gathered for the 2018 Day of Service. Volunteers spent the day giving back to their school and their community in honor of the inauguration of Dr. Thomas Evans.

Volunteers dedicated time to various projects. Dr. Lisa Lockhart spent the morning making bracelets for schoolgirls in Tanzania!

Some volunteers remained on campus to beautify and tend to the UIW Community Garden, a place where students, faculty, and staff can contribute their time and pick the vegetables that grow there. Dr. Nursen Zanca took timetending to the plants and vegetables.

Others ventured out into the community, where much was to be done. This hard working group took time to paint over graffiti in San Antonio neighborhoods.

Dr. Evans took part in the Day of Service too! He spent the morning volunteering at San Antonio Time Dollar.

8th Annual Alumni Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday, March 24, UIW alumni gathered with their little Cardinals for the 8th annual Alumni Easter Egg Hunt! Rosie Garcia, Director of Development, presented a young Cardinal with a gift before the festivities kicked off.

PhD Dissertation Defenses

Denise Krohn, candidate for the PhD in Education, defended her dissertation on Monday, March 26. The title of her dissertation was "The Initial Planning Process of an International Service-Learning Pilot Initiative Under Development." Karen Boleska, candidate for the PhD in Education, presented a defense of her dissertation on Thursday, March 29. Karen's dissertation was titled "Motivations of NCAA Student Athletes in Community Service." Her dissertation committee was chaired by Dr. Arthur Hernandez.

Miss San Antonio 2018 Fiesta Medal

Miss San Antonio & UIW sophomore, Ashley Sneed, unveiled her official FiestaMedal at UIW on Tuesday, April 3.Proceeds from her medal will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals & Miss America scholarships.

Sneed is a UIW sophomore majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in business. She is also the featured twirler for the UIW Marching Cardinals.

KUIW Celebrates 13 Years on AirKUIW

This week, KUIW celebrated 13 years on the air! They gathered on the Dubuis Lawn to share their excitement with other students, bringing music, food, water balloons, and lots of KUIW gear. Congratulations, KUIW!

UIW Career Services will be having a clothes collection March 19 - May 18. The Cardinal Closet will provide professional career clothing for students' use in interviews, career fairs, internships, networking receptions, and other career-related events, which require professional attire. Dr. Desiree Kornrum-Byrne and family on the recent loss of her mother, Dorothy May Kornrum. Dorothy planned for cremation and will be interred at home. It was Dorothy's wish that family and friends remember her as she was in life.
