Peace Day 2017
Each October, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) celebrates Peace Day. This year, Peace Day was celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 25. UIW began hosting annual Peace Fairs in 1986 with educational content and planted a "peace pole" monument on campus. This annual celebration honors the efforts of society to work together to find a more peaceful, just and sustainable world for all. The UIW community carries on the tradition of Peace Day by bringing agencies, speakers and exhibitions to raise the social consciousness of peace. On the last Wednesday of October, the UIW community remembers Dr. Bernard O'Halloran, a beloved faculty member who was killed. With this in mind, the community promotes education on justice and peace in the world.
