On Wednesday, Jan.7 the Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate hosted the 2015 full-time faculty reception in the Rosenberg Sky Room. After a brief meeting the 2014-2015 Faculty Leadership and Mission Continues Awards were presented.  Dr. Bob Connelly is pictured with Dr. Bonnie McCormick the winner of the 2015 Robert J. Connelly Faculty Leadership Award. The award is given in honor of Dr. Connelly for his many years of leadership and dedicated service to UIW.

12th Annual Red Dress Event & Health Fair

Save the date for the 12th Annual Red Dress Event & Health Fair set for Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Marian Hall Ballroom. This annual event promotes cardiac health in women and features fashions designed by UIW students. In addition, each year fashion faculty and students hand dye scarves sold to benefit the event. Scarves are $20 and up. If you are interested in purchasing a scarf,come by the Office of Public Relations or contact Public Relations at (210) 829-6001. 

 

Made in SA: Music by SA Composers, Played by SA Pianists

The University of the Incarnate Word will host a concert featuring all world premieres of pieces written specifically for young pianists from 3 – 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25 in UIW's Seddon Hall (new music building). The music will also be performed by young pianists who are currently studying with teachers in the San Antonio area. A book containing select pieces performed on the concert will be available for purchase at the event. The concert and book were conceived and the pieces written by members of the Composers Alliance of San Antonio (CASA). The event is free and open to the public but seating is limited. Blackboard Walk-in Training Sessions

Stop by the Center for Teaching and Learning (AD 212) on Jan 13 and 14 from 10 am – 2 pm for a tour of the newly enhanced Blackboard LMS. Bring your syllabus, PowerPoint presentations or other documentation, and we will show you how to get your course ready for the spring semester. We can also help you to set up your Grade Center, copy course materials from last semester's course and create a collaborative online session. Military Advanced Education (MAE) has awarded the University of the Incarnate Word the designation of a Top School in its 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education. The Guide was released in the December issue of MAE, and is available online at www.mae-kmi.com

Cardinal Spotlight

UIW Athletics Open House

All are invited to the 2015 UIW Athletics Open House at the Drury Inn & Suites Airport (95 NE 410, San Antonio, TX 78216) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 21.  Enjoy complimentary food and drinks while mingling with other UIW employees and UIW Cardinals Club members.  Each attendee will receive a complimentary gift certificate for a one night stay at the hotel. UIW Highlights:

Bereavement Notice - Ramsinghani

Dr. Sushma Ramsinghani, associate professor in the Feik School of Pharmacy, is mourning the loss of her mother, Mrs. Sushila Devi Baderia, who passed away after a very brief illness in Atlanta on December 29th at the age of 83 years. She was visiting the United States from India. She leaves behind three daughters and one son, who were with her in her last days. Funeral and cremation were performed in Atlanta on December 31st. Please keep Dr. Ramsinghani and her family in your prayers.

Bereavement Notice – Vargas

Cindy Escamilla, UIW legal counsel, Frank Sanchez, special events operations manager and Robert Sanchez, campus security are mourning the loss of their nephew, Matthew Vargas who passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, after a two year battle with cancer. Matthew was a 2011 graduate of St. Anthony Catholic High School where he was quarterback of the football team. He also attended UIW. Matthew passed peacefully at the young age of 22.  Visitation begins at 5:30 p.m., with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9.  A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan 10.  All services will be held at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78223. St. Anthony Catholic High School - School Choice Rally

St. Anthony will hold a School Choice rally at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28 on the SACHS Lang Field.  The rally is to bring the issue of School Choice, which provides parents the option to choose their child's school, to the community and area legislators.
