Instructional Design
We bring an impressive array of expertise in the component subjects that comprise instructional design. Learning theory, instructional technology, online course design, and curriculum design to name a few. Our Instructional Designers study current research and emerging trends to inform our work and partner with experts on teaching and learning, both inside and outside the UIW community.
Many people wonder what Instructional Designers are. We are architects of learning experiences and directors of the process followed to plan, create, and deliver instruction.
Some areas you can expect to work with us on:
- Teaching Skills
- Lesson planning, building on prior knowledge, differentiated instruction, scaffolding, backward design, community building, and experiential learning are areas we can investigate and plan experiences that support academic success.
- Data Analysis
- Examining workload estimates, student evaluation feedback, exam performance, or classroom behaviors are some of the approaches we can use to make data-driven instructional decisions.
- Process Improvement
- Explore ineffective processes faculty or students face to identify solutions using existing technologies or research alternative products.
- Online Course Environments
- Training for Canvas and instructional technologies as well as course design for traditional, hybrid, and online modalities.
- Content Editing and Graphic Design
- Determine effective ways to write and present materials to support learning, including course syllabi, presentations, and content materials.
- Media Development
- Determine appropriate applications for your project and assist in bringing your vision to life.
- Accessibility and User Experience
- Alternative text, closed captioning, keyboard controls, and universal design for learning to ensure ADA compliance and quality courses.
- Collaborative Efforts
- Work in partnership with software specialists, audio visual services, Canvas administration, information technology, faculty committees, health profession school leadership, student services, and academic advising to ensure a holistically positive student experience at UIW.
Curriculum Design
Any crisis is an opportunity for growth and change. The disruption caused by the pandemic coupled with our move to the Canvas Learning Management System has yielded some fertile conditions for evaluating and modifying our curriculum.
As we become more comfortable, more confident with Canvas, the work of refining curriculum will become self-evident. Canvas will be conducive to this endeavor and the Instructional Design team will be there to partner with faculty and administrators to assure success for the UIW Community.
