Healthcare
As you know, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate
Word sponsor CHRISTUS Health, which oversees the operation of
our 34 hospitals. On behalf of this ministry, we ask you to vote
on Saturday, September 13th, for Proposition 12, a constitutional
amendment that will help to hold down the cost of healthcare,
and make sure that we have the services of our physicians, nurses
and hospitals in our area and throughout the state of Texas.
We are all facing escalating healthcare costs while physicians
also leave Texas because our malpractice insurance rates are
one of the highest in the country. That could change with the
passage of legislation, that, among other reforms, caps non-economic
damages in medical malpractice cases.

Congress For Children
Voices for Children San Antonio invites you to attend the fourth
annual Congress for Children from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September
10 in the Sky Room. Congress for Children is an annual forum
where local, state and federal organizations come together to
discuss strategies for helping San Antonio’s children.
This year they will present the 2003 San Antonio Children’s
Data Book. The Data Book is a collaborative document tracking
indicators such as demographic, economic and environmental factors.
The program also includes status reports and updates on specific
issues and programs, such as CHIP and Medicaid funding cuts.
There will be a panel discussion with local and state legislators.
God Is No Laughing Matter
Book discussion circle presented by Sr. Alice Holden. By prolific
and renowned catholic author and artist Julia Cameron explores
the creative process as a spiritual experience by examining childhood
conceptions of God and their applicability for the adult artist.
Cameron’s insightful observations motivate readers to creative
activity.
